We all know how a perfectly quiet life can be turned on its head by a disaster or an accident, natural or man-made. No matter their nature, such things are also something that brings people together, united by the need to save lives, property, and limit the damage. By their nature disasters are however messy things, and they don't always allow us access to the full scope of our technology. That's why in some cases response is slow, and the very needs that bring responders together are most of the time taken out of the equation. For instance, in case of floods, ground vehicles are rendered useless. Fires, no matter what caused them, kind of take aircraft out. And finally, seafaring ships cannot be used to save people after a plane crash in the desert. But what if there was a vehicle that could combine all the attributes of the others, and could be sent to the rescue as soon as the mayday call is made, regardless of what terrain needs to be traversed, or the location that needs to be reached? That’s more or less exactly what a crew of Australians called Project Greenlift is proposing. Read full article by Daniel Patrascu

Imagine this scenario after a flood. Roads are impassable. The only bridge to reach supplies is destroyed. Flood water is toxic and filled with debris. Cras, trucks, boats, jet skis, planes are grounded. A G.E.M, Ground Effect Machine could be used to perform rescues and to drop off needed water, food and medical supplies. #projectgreenlift #groundeffect #floodrescue #disasterrelief #greenenergy

Better Solutions. Better Future. The world is changing and so are we. Disasters, both natural and man-made, often expose vulnerabilities in transport systems. Delays lead to inconvenience and can cost lives. Our world needs solutions that ensure a viable, reliable and economic movement of people and goods, in extreme conditions. To ensure we are not adding to the problem, we recognise our role in supporting the environment and are providing a solution with a lower carbon footprint. #projectgreenlift #groundeffect #floodrescue #disasterrelief #greenenergy

This is a great video about one of aviation’s strangest designs and the visionary thinking behind it. The Soviet VVA-14: Part Plane, Part Hovercraft In the 1960s, Soviet engineer Robert Bartini envisioned an aircraft unlike anything else—a flying machine that could take off vertically, skim across water, and detect submarines. The result was the VVA-14, a unique amphibious aircraft built to harness the ground effect. #RobertBartini #FlyingMachine #Hovercraft #projectgreenlift #groundeffect #floodrescue #disasterrelief #greenenergy

The case for combining BOTH hovercraft and ground effect technology. Great article by author Harry Valentine at The Maritime Executive https://lnkd.in/eHyiiG4 "Both hovercraft and ground effect technology can be developed to carry weight of several of the largest cargo airplanes. Combining the technologies into a single vehicle allows for more efficient travel at higher speed over extended distances with the ability to come ashore on to land to load and unload the vehicle..." Low Flight G.E.Ms are the only craft designed to meet the US Coastguard’s operational requirements which are to: Provide transportation in areas in which energy exploration, development, or production activity takes place on the Outer Continental Shelf, and to Safely reaching helidecks or platforms located on offshore energy facilities under the craft’s own power. These unique capabilities create opportunities for our G.E.Ms (Ground Effect Machines) to service offshore industries, now only possible by helicopter operations, at a fraction of the economic and environmental cost. #projectgreenlift #groundeffect #floodrescue #disasterrelief #greenenergy
