Today is World Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) Day, an annual event led by the Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease to raise awareness, share new knowledge, and explore innovative therapeutic strategies for COPD. It’s estimated that three million people globally die each year due to COPD. As one of the leading causes of death worldwide, especially in low-resource countries, this preventable and treatable disease urgently requires action. This year’s theme, “Know Your Lung Function,” emphasises the importance of measuring lung function using spirometry, a vital diagnostic tool for COPD and an essential marker of health throughout life. Initiatives to reduce the burden of COPD and to promote lung health are taking place worldwide, including smoking cessation programs, fighting against both indoor and outdoor air pollution, and addressing childhood disadvantage factors that impact respiratory health. At MAC, we are proud to contribute to COPD research. Over the past five years, we have conducted six studies in respiratory therapeutic areas, with one active COPD study and another in the setup phase. This #WorldDiabetesDay, we stand with millions of people worldwide impacted by diabetes, a condition that affects not only health but also the quality of life of individuals and families. Currently, over 537 million adults live with diabetes, a number expected to rise sharply in the coming years. The condition can lead to serious complications like cardiovascular disease, nerve damage, and kidney disease, making ongoing research and improved treatments essential. At MAC Clinical Research, we remain committed to diabetes research. Over the past five years, we have conducted nine studies in this area, including First-In-Patient studies using the Euglycemic Glucose Clamp method—the gold standard for assessing insulin sensitivity—to explore new treatments aimed at improving glucose control and patient outcomes.
