Last Friday, we proudly commissioned another fully restored D11T Dozer—known as DZ71 in our records. This marks the fourth dozer among an impressive 22 machines that our talented Nambour maintenance crew has tackled this year. From minor repairs to major overhauls, the team consistently delivers exceptional results, restoring equipment to OEM standards. On top of restorations, they’ve also commissioned new machinery, expertly preparing it to meet mine specifications. Despite facing strong rain and wind during the loading of DZ71 onto the float, our crew kept their cool and ensured the job was done. The DZ71 has now joined our client's fleet. We’re confident it will deliver top-tier performance—an efficient, cost-effective solution that maximises the value of every machine in their operation. In the coming weeks, our team will complete work on another D11T Dozer and a Wheel Loader, continuing their outstanding efforts in what has been an incredibly productive year. MacKellar Group is proud to share that our Nambour Workshop team has successfully completed the commissioning of another mining-sized service truck for Middlemount Coal, a valued partner of nearly two decades. Last Friday, Service Truck ST326 departed our Nambour grounds, fully compliant with OEM specifications and ready to perform at peak levels. This Caterpillar 775F, equipped with a high-capacity Gecko Service Module from our partners at Alpha Plant, holds an impressive 42,000 litres of fluids – including 34,000 litres of fuel and seven compartments dedicated to oils and grease. This truck marks our 46th Service Truck addition to the fleet, reflecting MacKellar’s commitment to reliability, safety, and operational excellence. Our thanks to the Nambour Workshop team for their dedicated workmanship and to Alpha Plant Maintenance for their ongoing support in delivering high-quality Gecko Tanks Pty Ltd modules. This 600-tonne powerhouse is set to continue the success of its predecessor, bringing unmatched power, efficiency, and reliability to our client's operations. With its advanced technology and user-friendly design, the R 9600 has been a game-changer, and we're eager to see the impact this new addition will make at Middlemount Coal. The sheer size of this excavator is awe-inspiring—each component is so massive that three cranes are required to assemble the machine on-site. Since joining the NACG family, MacKellar has gone from strength to strength. Our partnership has opened new doors, with the Australian business securing new contracts and expanding our portfolio. During this time, our workforce has grown by over 20%, reflecting the increased demand for our services. Additionally, we’ve integrated NACG’s seasonal market model into our operations and are receiving a shipment of 20 Haul Trucks from Canada for use in our Australian projects. MacKellar has recently deployed the Sleipner system (Sleipner Finland Oy) at the Carmichael coal mine, increasing operational efficiency and reducing wear on our equipment. This innovative system, which may resemble "training wheels" from a distance, enables us to move our 120-tonne excavators using CAT 777 dump trucks. This significantly cuts down on the time needed to relocate heavy machinery across the site. The Sleipner system acts like a trailer for the excavators—once mounted onto the dollies, the excavators can be quickly towed by a haul truck, moving much faster than on their own tracks. Sleipner claims its mobility solutions reduce transport times by up to 85% compared to traditional methods while boosting productivity by 12-20%. Additionally, it can double or triple the lifespan of the undercarriage, leading to considerable maintenance savings. In the words of the Managing Director: “The Sleipner system has been a game-changer at Carmichael. It significantly reduces undercarriage wear and improves efficiency whenever we need to move an excavator.” Have a look at the photos of our excavators being towed by the Sleipner system!
