About us
The School of Engineering at Macquarie University offers an extensive range of engineering fields of study in Australia. The program uniquely combines a solid foundation in theoretical knowledge with project-based learning as the signature experience to provide students with modern, practical skills acquisition and industry experience through the following five specialisations: • Mechanical Engineering • Mechatronic Engineering • Software Engineering • Electrical and Electronic Engineering • Civil and Environmental Engineering The School of Engineering aims to be equitable and inclusive. We promote a society in which the decision to pursue a career in Engineering is unbounded by gender. The School of Engineering has established a Women in Engineering Committee, actively encouraging women studying Engineering at Macquarie University and increasing women's representation in STEM. Our teaching also incorporates the groundbreaking research our academics are undertaking in areas such as nanotechnology, antenna design, microsensors and sustainable energy systems.

Grateful for the opportunity to present my research at #AMN11 It was an incredible experience to share my research and engage with experts in the field. One of the highlights was meeting Nobel Laureate Prof. Moungi Bawendi—a truly inspiring moment! The conference was filled with insightful discussions, great networking opportunities, and reconnecting with old friends while making new ones. My deepest gratitude to my supervisor, Prof. Shujuan Huang, for always being my support and guiding me through this journey. A special thanks to Macquarie University Macquarie University Engineering for awarding me the PGRF grant, which made this experience possible! A huge thank you to the AMN11 organizers The MacDiarmid Institute for putting together such a fantastic event! #QuantumDots #Nanoscience #AMN11 #Networking #Macquarie Macquarie University Faculty of Science and Engineering

MQ | always a pleasure catching up with Yue Zhang, sharing my experiences at Stantec, The Greek-Australian Society, Macquarie University Young Alumni Advisory Board (YAAB), Property Council NSW and Property Industry Foundation. During our discussions, the topic of Mentoring came up. I've been fortunate enough to be part of GAS' Mentoring Program (both as a mentee and an organiser) for the last 4 years on the board, and I can confirm first hand that mentorship has played a huge role in my journey, and others participating in the program. That’s why I signed up as a mentor for the Women in Engineering program at Macquarie University! I also encourage anyone else who is capable and willing to be a mentor to sign up using the link, and take this opportunity to empower the next generation - https://lnkd.in/g7i_GYSW Macquarie University Faculty of Science and Engineering Macquarie University Engineering Professor Aman Oo Min Paing Susan Mills Eric Knight

#CoffeeWith100MQAlumni - 68/100 🤝 For John Georgaklis, a 2020 double Bachelor of Engineering and Commerce graduate, wearing many hats serves one purpose - to build a strong and supportive community. John is the Executive Chair of the Macquarie University Young Alumni Advisory Board (YAAB), a #MechanicalEngineer and Project Manager at Stantec, the Secretary for the The Greek-Australian Society, and a Future Leaders board member for both the Property Council and Property Industry Foundation. Through these roles, he's creating pathways for collaboration and growth while inspiring others to follow suit. 🎓 As the Executive Chair of YAAB, John plays a key role in shaping the future of young #MQAlumni network. "It's about giving back to the community that gave me so much," he says. "Through YAAB, we're creating opportunities for young alumni to stay connected and contribute meaningfully to the next generation of graduates." His leadership focuses on keeping YAAB a dynamic and welcoming community. In his professional role, John leads diverse teams, manages project timelines and budgets, drives innovation and ensures a quality product is delivered to the end user. "Every project is a learning opportunity," he says. "It's about solving problems and collaborating with different teams to achieve a shared goal." 💞 His dedication to community building extends beyond his professional and volunteering roles. It's about creating support systems and giving people the tools to engage and thrive. "Life is a constant learning process. Don't wait to have all the answers, just start, and everything will fall into place," John reflects. John particularly encourages others to grab opportunities, even when they feel uncertain. "One of the best pieces of advice I received was to say yes to good opportunities when they appear, even when you're unsure. There’s a reason why you’ve been given that chance, so have faith that you'll figure it out along the way." Sometimes success isn't about having everything mapped out perfectly, and for John, it's about taking that first step and learning along the way. "The biggest opportunities often come when you least expect them, don't let self-doubt hold you back. Take that leap, and you might be surprised where it leads you." ✨ John is a strong advocate for #mentorship. "I’m always keen to support students and show them what’s possible after graduation." Having benefited from mentors himself, he’s seen how industry guidance boosts students’ motivation and confidence. "Volunteering doesn’t require much time but can make a lasting impact." 💖 Inspired by his mentors, John recently signed up to be a mentor for the Women in Engineering mentorship program at Macquarie University Engineering. Now’s your chance to empower the next generation- sign up today: https://lnkd.in/g7i_GYSW

In September 2024, the Macquarie University Speed Team travelled to Battle Mountain, Nevada, on a mission to push the limits of human-powered speed and returned with two world records. With years of meticulous design, engineering, and dedication behind them, the team achieved extraordinary results: - A new 600/200 women’s world record at 63.3km/h. - A new women’s flying 200 world record at 96.8km/h. These remarkable milestones were made possible by the tireless efforts of the team and the generous support of the Faculty of Science and Engineering and sponsors, including Hyundai Motor Company Australia and Romar Engineering Pty Ltd. The Macquarie University Speed Challenge exemplifies the innovation, teamwork, and excellence that are hallmarks of Macquarie’s approach to education and research. #MacquarieUniversity
