We’re on a mission to improve the capability of SA’s building and construction industry and tackle the skills shortage. It’s a massive undertaking to find the thousands of jobs needed to deliver on major projects like hospitals, roads and housing developments. That’s why today Master Builders SA CEO Will Frogley and Housing and Urban Development Minister Nick Champion joined forces to launch a new partnership and program called BuildConnect. It’s a ground-breaking program linking skilled migrant tradies here and overseas with local businesses in need of talent. Minister Champion emphasised the urgency: "South Australia needs more tradies to build new homes and deliver major infrastructure projects. Build Connect will provide a much-needed boost, strengthening a sector vital for our state’s economic growth." Will Frogley highlighted the program's impact: "We’re pulling out all the stops to attract local talent, but it’s clear we also need skilled migration to meet demand. Build Connect will match onshore and offshore migrant construction workers with businesses crying out for their skills, helping them succeed in their chosen field – not settle for second best." There has been a bit of talk and concern lately about apprenticeship commencements and completions in SA.   While there is always room for improvement, for the record, construction apprenticeship take-ups actually rose by 17% in the 12 months to June 2024.   Master Builders SA own Group Training Organisation actually grew by 15% during the past 12 months and we even cracked the enviable milestone of 200 apprentices in December.   However, because our sector is booming so quickly there is much more to do, and we need to grow our workforce by about 15,000 over the next 3 years to meet demand – driven by projects like the #Torrens 2 Darlington (#T2D) tunnel and the #SAHousingRoadmap.   MBA continues to work in partnership with industry and the Skills Minister Blair Boyer MP to fund and run programs like Born 2 Build and Keeping Tradies on Track. These bold initiatives are led by industry experts to tackle best practice methods for tradies to they stay the course and stay on the tools.   Kym Morgan, our Public Affairs GM spoke on ABC Radio with Paul Gough yesterday morning about our apprentice mentoring program and other training initiatives to support both South Aussie workers and employers be their best version of themselves on their learning and employment journey.   Listen to the full interview here: https://lnkd.in/gKBG9yQa
