Australia is taking steps to protect children under 16 from accessing age-restricted social media platforms through a new law. The Online Safety Amendment (Social Media Minimum Age) Bill 2024 was introduced in the House of Representatives. On 29 November 2024, the bill was successfully passed in both houses of Parliament. The Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data (PCPD) recently inspected 10 major online travel platforms, including Agoda, Expedia and more, to evaluate their data collection and privacy practices. Key findings revealed that while all platforms have privacy policies, gaps remain, such as limited disclosures on data retention and transparency regarding AI usage. Notably, Expedia stood out for its clear and user-friendly privacy policy. The Australian Signals Directorate (ASD) has released updated guidance to help organizations defend against cyber threats targeting Microsoft’s Active Directory, a key tool in IT network management.
