  • Start the year clear, HAPPY NEW REAR!!! 💕🍑   Grad nurse Chelsea and the fabulous Endoscopy team at STARS are walking us through this common procedure.   "There's nothing to be ashamed of when having a colonoscopy, it's a very normal procedure - in fact, we perform over 8843 each year," Chelsea said.

  • The New Year's Eve party doesn't stop when you arrive at Gannet House! Just ask resident Janine, who moved in 10 months ago. While she's now living away from husband Graham, she reflects fondly on how the two of them would stay awake until midnight to share a New Year’s kiss. Janine needed a higher level of care than Graham could provide alone, which meant leaving their family home for Brighton's Specialised Residential Aged Care home. “It's good because there’s always something happening here, the recreation officers and volunteers plan so many exciting activities!” You can be rest-assured Janine and her fellow residents will be ringing in the New Year in style. 🎉🤩

  • "We know that stress and chronic pain are closely linked. Enduring pain on a daily basis can create significant stress and may contribute to mental health issues. In fact, about one third of adults with arthritis experience anxiety or depression. As we step into the new year, I want to bring pain education to the forefront of everyone's mind. Effective pain management requires a holistic approach that addresses the physical, emotional, and psychological components of pain." #StaffMondayMantra ☁️ Melanie, pain management nurse practitioner, RBWH

  • After 44 incredible years, our beloved gardener Barb is off on long-service leave, preparing for retirement! ☘ Starting at RBWH in 1980 as a laundry hand, Barb soon followed her passion, landing her dream job tending the hospital gardens. For decades, she’s been the heart of RBWH’s green spaces, brightening days for staff, patients, and visitors alike. “Sometimes people just need a new perspective. I’ve loved helping them see things in a more positive light,” said Barb. Her legacy lives on in Barb’s Garden, outside the Main Entrance. 🌷🌳

  • Have you heard about Metro North's Virtual Emergency Care Service? 🚑 🚨 This team of doctors and nurses help with conditions that need immediate specialist emergency medical attention but aren’t life threatening, such as acute respiratory illnesses, allergic reactions, rashes and bites, pain and paediatric conditions. Kim is the Medical Director of VECS, which is available to the public every day from 8am-10pm including over the holiday period.   "The great thing about this service is you can access it from the comfort of your own home, there is no cost involved, and you don't have to worry about the little things like driving and parking," Kim said. "In most cases we have much shorter wait times than Emergency Departments. The normal wait time is under 30 minutes from triage to speaking to an experienced emergency doctor or nurse." You can see if your symptoms are able to be treated virtually and access this service for free here: https://lnkd.in/gwJGDj6W

  • Busy roads and a rush to get from holiday plan A to B can be a recipe for disaster when it comes to road safety. Each year we see a spike in road trauma around the festive period, with this year's predicted wet conditions set to exacerbate that. Jamieson Trauma Institute Director and RBWH orthopaedic surgeon Dr Michael said that while a higher density in cars meant accidents were more likely, we can all do our part to minimise that. "Death and lifelong disability are a real reality from motor incidents, and any head injury or significant injury can impact on quality of life and mobility, not just for the individual but for their loved ones too," he said. "People need to be aware of the risk factors with rainy, slippery roads and more cars around, and just be extra safe this season." 🎄

  • Baby Amelia is going home from Redcliffe Hospital Special Care Nursery in time for Christmas Day with her family! Born prematurely at 32 weeks, this little early gift weighed just 1780gm when she came into the world unexpectedly, albeit with fighting spirit. Amelia's Mum Sophie put her in a festive onesie in preparation for leaving hospital. "‘I’m so glad she’ll be home for Christmas and will get to meet our family and friends," Sophie said. 🎁

  • "Christmas is a lovely time of year to be working, especially out here at Kilcoy where you can build a really good rapport with your patients. I normally see around ten patients a day sometimes on the wards and sometimes in outpatients. We get a lot of people who are awaiting rehab and are in for a long time, so I try and keep them happy and entertained, especially over Christmas." #StaffMondayMantra ☁️ Jean, Physiotherapist, Kilcoy Hospital.
