Why can it be hard to just switch off? As we approach the holiday season, it’s always a challenge to step away from work without feeling disconnected. It’s easy to fall into the "hamster wheel" of work, and after even a short break, the reluctance to dive back in can be real. Finding the balance between staying updated and truly disconnecting is crucial. How do you distance yourself without fully removing yourself? Whether it’s checking in periodically or having clear structures in place, everyone’s approach is different. What strategies work for you during time away from the office?

Is loyalty dead or just evolving - a topic often discussed amongst business owners. Video - Two years ago, Callum swapped his plumbing apprenticeship for a career in civil construction, driven by his dream of operating a grader. Today, Callum’s thriving in the grader seat, proving that loyalty isn’t just about staying put—it’s about finding a place that aligns with your goals and values. We’ve all heard the talk about how workplace loyalty is changing, with younger generations supposedly "job-hopping" more than ever. But is that the full picture? We believe the shift isn’t about a lack of loyalty—it’s about higher standards. Younger workers aren’t just looking for a paycheck; they want purpose, growth, and respect. They expect companies to care about their well-being and align with their values. And when those expectations aren’t met, they move on. But is that disloyalty? Or is it a redefinition of loyalty? At MG Civil, we’re proud of the loyal team we’ve built. We know that culture plays a huge part in keeping people committed. We prioritise an environment where our team feels valued, supported, and aligned with our values—because loyalty thrives where respect and growth are encouraged. Loyalty may not look the same as it once did, but it’s still very much alive. It’s just about finding the right fit, where both the company and the individual can grow together. What do you think? Is loyalty “dead,” or is it just evolving?

At MG Civil, we know a project doesn’t start with the first shovel in the ground—it starts in a room, with a team, and a whole lot of ideas. This week, we sat down with Staable. for one of those sessions where plans get debated, perspectives collide, and solutions start to take shape. It’s messy, it’s creative, and honestly, it’s where the real work begins. For us, teamwork isn’t just showing up—it’s about trusting the people around you to bring their best. When that trust is there, the results tend to speak for themselves. What’s your take—what really makes a team click when the pressure’s on? Let’s hear it.

Lately, I’ve been questioning how as business owners we’re told to chase every opportunity – especially the ones with a big financial upside. I’m starting to wonder if every deal is really worth it, even if it looks good on paper. Sometimes, things just don’t align with our values or long-term goals, and I’m realising it’s better to say ‘no’ to deals that don’t feel right. Sure, saying ‘yes’ might boost revenue in the short term, but at what cost? Maybe our time and energy are better spent on partnerships that actually align with what we stand for, rather than just focusing on the bottom line. Anyone else face this choice? How do you balance sticking to your values with the lure of a good deal that just doesn’t sit quite right? #BusinessDecisions #ValuesOverProfit #Partnerships
