On very rare occasions, something truly special happens. Last week, we had the pleasure of witnessing just such a moment, thanks to a dear friend and associate, Cameron Bain of Mincore—one of Australia’s leading EPC contractors—along with his partner, Saba, and his father, Rod.
Cameron recently celebrated an outstanding achievement. His horse, Knight’s Choice, won the Melbourne Cup—a prize sought after by royalty, the rich, and the famous. In his typically gracious style, Cameron offered to bring the Cup to Mining One’s Melbourne head office. Naturally, we jumped at the opportunity!
We’ve had the privilege of working closely with Cameron and his team on numerous projects. Mining One has a long-standing association with the Mount Rawdon mine, where the gold for the Cup was mined. It’s an incredible full circle—from an initial idea, through investment and hard work on everyone’s part, to seeing the fruits of our collective effort in the magnificent form of the Melbourne Cup. A special mention goes to Phelan Thrinh, who has led much of Mining One's work at Evolution’s Mt Rawdon mine. Moments like these make us incredibly proud to be involved in such meaningful projects. Congratulations to Evolution’s outstanding team.
But the celebration didn’t stop there. When we asked Cameron if he could bring the Cup to the LME dinner later that evening, he immediately agreed with his characteristic generosity—thanks to the efforts of Cameron's brother, who returned the Cup from its initial trip to central Victoria back to Melbourne for the event. Mining One attended as guests of Russell Griffin from Hartree Metals, joined by our great friend Ron Goodman of Delvure Pty Ltd. Thanks to Tim Roberts and the organizing committee, I had the absolute honour of introducing the Melbourne Cup to an enthralled audience. It was a privilege to do so and to share in the excitement of this prestigious win with everyone there. Gold fever in its purest form!
The next morning, someone mentioned that the result of an election was announced that night. I don’t think anyone at the event noticed—I certainly didn’t!
Another shout out. Thanks Gemma in all your help making this happen! A gem by name and nature!
