Last week, I had the opportunity to join the Times Higher Education Global AI Forum in Hong Kong for discussions on the impact of #artificialintelligence on Education. President Jin-Guang Teng, from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University chaired our panel on AI-driven innovation and entrepreneurship. It was great to share our innovation programs at Monash University and the Monash Data Futures Institute, and explore strategies for growth with my panellists Prof Mark Daley from Western University in Canada, and Prof Sir Peter Mathieson from The University of Edinburgh in the UK. #THEglobalAIForum I was also joined at the conference by Prof Jie Lu from University of Technology Sydney, a colleague from the Kingston AI Group of #AI Professors in Australia. Many thanks to President Teng and Simone Dilena for convening this tremendous event. Congratulations to The Hong Kong Polytechnic University on their 30 year anniversary too!

The second edition of AIMDay: Maths AI and Energy meet industry was a huge success. AIMDay serves as a unique platform that brings together academics and industry leaders to exchange ideas, share expertise, and explore innovative solutions to real-world problems. On this occassion, we co-hosted the event with Monash Science , School of Mathematics, Monash Energy Institute and RACE for 2030. Our Research Director, Andrea Collevecchio joined efforts with Roger Dargaville, Tim Garoni, Sarah Goodwin, Kais Hamza, Bill Lilley, and Markus Wagner to deliver an engaging event with active participation from over 75 attendees, including representatives from 7 industry organisations. An interdisciplinary team at Monash University has developed and piloted a world-first 'AI Energy Futures' curriculum, engaging 70 Melbourne high school students in reimagining their future schools. The project is a collaboration between the Emerging Technologies Research Lab, Monash University , Monash Education and Monash Tech School funded by a Monash Data Futures Institute Seed Grant. By empowering students to participate in shaping their future, the team has achieved two crucial goals: ✔ Fostering futures education: students were given tools to think critically about what's to come, equipping them to participate in discussions about technology and sustainability. ✔ Amplifying young voices: the project created a platform for students' expectations and ideas about alternative futures to be heard, potentially leading to more effective and student-centric education policies. This approach has brought student voices into the conversation about #AI in #education, broadening the discussion beyond technology to include crucial environmental and energy considerations and how we might progress toward desirable ‘AI energy futures’.
