Australia's largest fun run and walk to raise money for breast & ovarian cancer research.

About us

The Mother’s Day Classic is an annual fun run and walk raising funds and awareness for breast & ovarian cancer research. Our aim is to deliver a fun, healthy and inspirational community event that brings the community together on Mother’s Day to support and remember those touched by breast and ovarian cancer. Since its inception in 1998, more than 1.5 million participants have raised $41.45 million for breast cancer research. The event is now one of Australia's largest national charity events and has become an integral part of Mother's Day for thousands of Australians. The event was established in 1998 by Women in Super, a national network of women who work in the superannuation and finance industries. Women in Super’s support of the nationwide event is demonstrated through a strong employee and volunteer engagement program facilitated throughout their networks. Proceeds of the event go to the National Breast Cancer Foundation’s and Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation's research programs into detection, treatment and care. The majority of people who organise the MDC each year are volunteers. You too can get involved by registering to walk, run or volunteer in all capital cities and various regional centres across Australia. OUR MISSION - to deliver an inspirational community event that celebrates those touched by breast or ovarian cancer and raises awareness and funds for cancer research. OUR GOALS • Raise funds for breast and ovarian cancer research • To increase awareness of breast and ovarian cancer within the community • To celebrate the lives of people who have been touched by breast or ovarian cancer • Create a fun, healthy and inspiring event that the community can enjoy together on Mother’s Day

  • "I've been a participant in the MDC since primary school. I decided to run in 2024 and raise funds for breast cancer research after a woman very close to me was diagnosed in 2019. She is an amazing woman who fought so hard to beat the beast, and she did! I watched and experienced the effect a cancer diagnosis had on those close to her, and I saw her trying to be strong for everyone around her. The MDC is an amazing event I'll always be a part of. I'm so happy to see they have included ovarian cancer research as well, a cancer that needs so much more research and funding. I hope I can inspire more young people to learn about breast and ovarian cancers and join in raising awareness and funds!" - Ashleigh, MDC Community Ambassador 💗

  • As we recognise #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth, we’re sharing the stories of individuals like Sophie. Sophie’s journey with Triple Negative Breast Cancer began in May 2023, and she has shown incredible strength throughout her treatment. "I was diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer in May 2023. At the time I was a seemingly healthy, busy mum of two young boys. The last year has been an emotional and physically taxing rollercoaster ride but feeling lucky the treatment has worked. I finished treatment 3 days before the 2024 MDC and proudly walked with my family on Sunday 12 May, the day I was diagnosed a year earlier. I have been very lucky to have incredible family and friends to help me through. Cancer doesn’t just happen to you, it takes over the whole family. While I am eager to move forward, I will never forget the kindness our family was shown and now I'm ready to give back. I’m passionate about raising awareness and supporting other young women whose lives are turned upside down by breast cancer."
