"In both Myanmar’s conflict zones and Afghanistan’s cumulative humanitarian crises, the message is clear: access to SRHR isn’t a luxury—it’s a lifeline. These services help women navigate their way through crises, offering them control over their bodies and futures at a time when so much else feels beyond their power. Yet, SRHR remains underprioritised in humanitarian aid. Women and girls in crises aren’t just underserved—they are often overlooked entirely. This must change." 🗞️Read MSI Asia Pacific Executive Officer Merewyn Foran's blog on AVPN: Resilience in Humanitarian Crisis: Why Sexual and Reproductive Health is Vital for Stability. https://loom.ly/qYEKgnQ

We are thrilled to be partnering with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) and UNICEF through the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade's commitment to improving access to life-changing sexual and #reproductivehealth and #rights across our region. Contraception = gender equality 👏 Dr Lucas de Toca PSM
Australia is committed to the universal realisation of sexual and reproductive health and rights. Today, on International Day for Elimination of Violence Against Women, we've launched the new $56.8 million Towards Universal Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights in the Indo-Pacific program. The new program will support UNFPA, International Planned Parenthood Federation, Marie Stopes International and UNICEF to improve access to, and quality of, services for sexual and reproductive health and rights in Southeast Asia. It will also contribute towards eliminating violence against women and girls, including harmful practices like child, early and forced marriage. The new program complements the Transformative Agenda for Women, Youth and Adolescents in the Pacific Phase 2 program, which commenced in November 2023 and is delivering similar support and services across the Pacific. Our Director of Advocacy and External Relations Bonney Corbin was part of the Australian delegation at the Asia Pacific #Beijing30 Ministerial Conference last week, to build consensus and take action ahead of the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action in 2025. Reproductive rights are human rights, now and always 💪💪💪
Chair, Australian Women's Health Alliance. Advocacy & External Relations Director, MSI Asia Pacific.
“Globally we are seeing and responding to war, violent conflict, political and economic insecurity and the wind back of reproductive rights. Full sexual and reproductive rights are human rights. They’re not negotiable. Australia will continue to work towards ensuring every person everywhere is respected and empowered to make decisions for themselves and to have access to the services they want and need. Achieving #GenderEquality and protecting women’s rights demands consistent and vigilant action. Now is the time to strengthen our determination.... The realisation of gender equality means a just safer, more stable and prosperous world for everyone. We must ensure the world continues to push forward....” Padma Raman PSM, Executive Director, Australian Government Office for Women speaking in Bangkok today at the Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference on the 30th Anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action. In Nepal, the legalisation of abortion has led to a significant drop in maternal mortality rates. But the potential return of the US global gag rule threatens this progress. “You can’t strengthen the health system in four years and then stop for four years. Next time you have to start from scratch.” Tushar Niroula, Executive Director of MSI Nepal 🗞️Read the full story on how access to choice is shaping the lives of women and girls in Nepal and MSI Nepal's response here: https://loom.ly/Jf_kLf0

“This is an absolutely disturbing period in history, where sadly policy rollback threatens to take away the rights and dignity of women worldwide.” - Tushar Niroula, MSI Nepal Country Director A Trump re-election will disrupt global reproductive health efforts and embolden the global anti-rights movement. Thank you for visiting our wonderful team in Cambodia, Stephanie Copus Campbell AM GAICD!
What an incredible visit to Cambodia, where I learned a lot about effective approaches to case management, the delivery of destigmatised sexual and reproductive health services and ways to give.agency and voice to garment workers to advocate successfully for better conditions.
