Honouring those with lived experiences of social injustice

About us

Led by the resilient voices of those with lived experience, the Museum of Understanding Through Tolerance and Inclusion (MUTTI) Ltd is a volunteer-run not-for-profit orgainisation that raises public consciousness on the importance of tolerance, mutual respect and inclusion in preventing discrimination, protecting human rights, and achieving reconciliation between groups of individuals within Australia. By providing a platform of resistance, people can share their experiences of overt and covert discriminations which has led to their human rights being violated. Their stories allow people to be drawn together by their commonalities rather than being divided by age, disability, race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, socioeconomic status and cultural ideologies.

  • Peta Link: A Voice of Strength, Healing, and Empowerment 🌿 Peta Link, a proud Gooreeng Gooreeng and Kabi Kabi First Nations woman, has turned her personal pain into a mission of healing for others. As a Family Support Worker at Bonnies Support Services, Peta helps women escaping domestic violence find safe housing and rebuild their lives. Her dedication is rooted in her own experiences of homelessness, childhood trauma, and family violence. Her philosophy is simple yet profound: 💬 “At Bonnies, I have taught women about positive boundaries, understanding red flags, and their human rights. Through Bonnies, I have grown personally and professionally.” Peta’s art is a testament to resilience. An award-winning self-taught artist and Holistic Integrative Creative Arts Practitioner, her work has been showcased across NSW, with her piece 'Spirit Women' earning her the Casula Powerhouse Aboriginal Scholarship Award. Through workshops and exhibitions with the UNSEEN Women's Artist Group, she uses art to give voice to the stories of women often silenced by society. Her vision: 🌸 “Having the opportunity to speak my truth at our event at the NGO Forum of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women in New York shows me that possibilities are endless when your voice is heard.” 💛 Let’s help Peta and her fellow advocates take their stories to the world stage. • The Museum of Understanding Through Tolerance & Inclusion is honored to be an Official Sponsor of the NGO CSW69/Beijing+30 Forum, taking place from March 10 – 21, 2025. This global gathering is a meaningful space for advocates, organizations, and leaders working toward gender equality, social justice, and human rights. By supporting this forum, we reaffirm our commitment to encouraging respect, inclusion, and positive change for all. • Evie Joy: A Story of Courage, Recovery, and Advocacy 💜 Evie Joy, a single mother living with a disability, has turned her painful past into a source of strength for others. Recognized as Local Woman of the Year for the Illawarra in 2016, Evie uses her lived experience to advocate for systemic change around domestic violence, homelessness, and mental health. Her journey to safety was marked by unimaginable challenges. After fleeing a violent marriage and facing homelessness, Evie was told she didn’t qualify for support due to "couch surfing" with friends. Yet, she persisted. Today, Evie works as a community services teacher at St George Community College, helping others find hope and resources to rebuild their lives. Her belief in recovery is unshakable: 💬 “I believe recovery is possible for us all — that it is hard work, but we can all live a meaningful life despite trauma. There’s a light at the end of the tunnel if we can just sit in the dark long enough.” Evie also channels her passion through poetry as a founding member of the UNSEEN Women's Artist Group, raising public awareness and fostering social cohesion for women who feel isolated and unheard. ✨ Help Evie and the MUTTI team take their message of resilience to the world stage! They need to raise $20,000 to present at the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women in New York, advocating for policy reforms to protect women from violence and homelessness. 🔗 Donate today: www.givenow.com.au/mutti #EvieJoy #SurvivorAdvocate #MentalHealthAwareness #MUTTI #UNCSW #DonateNow #DomesticViolenceAwareness #WomenEmpowerment #RecoveryIsPossible #Women_Unseen

  • Ghost in the Machine – a powerful and deeply moving work by Belinda Mason OAM, now part of MUTTI Collections. Julie’s story speaks of a lifetime of trauma—born with a disability and later acquiring another, she found herself trapped in a cycle of violence that only deepened with her vulnerability. She describes a ‘ghost’ forced upon her from a young age, one that shattered her spirit and continues to erode her body. She was never made to feel safe. This powerful image reflects that pain—eyes clouded, distorted, almost drowning in the weight of lived experience. Yet, through the lens of Photography by Belinda Mason and the voice of Mutti, her story is not hidden. It is raw, direct, and unfiltered. She refuses to stay silent. She has spoken out—for her own sake. #GhostInTheMachine #Mutti #BelindaMasonPhotography #SurvivorVoices #InvisibleWounds #DisabilityAndViolence

  • Transparent – a hauntingly powerful image by Belinda Mason OAM. This portrait reflects the silent struggles of a survivor, a woman who has endured immense loss and trauma. She witnessed the murder of her eight-month-old son at the hands of her ex-partner, turned to self-medication to cope with the pain, and fought her way through depression. Now, with three children and the support of her family, she is rebuilding her life. The blurred glass represents the distance between past and present, the isolation of grief, and the resilience that emerges through survival. Her story is not just one of tragedy but of strength, healing, and hope. #Transparent #BelindaMasonPhotography #Survivor #StrengthInPain #DomesticViolenceAwareness

  • The Beijing Women’s Conference (1995) was a historic moment for gender equality, bringing together over 30,000 participants and leading to the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action (BPfA)—a global blueprint for women’s rights. The declaration outlined 12 critical areas, including ending gender-based violence, promoting economic security, and ensuring inclusive policymaking. At CSW69, MUTTI is continuing this mission by amplifying the voices of First Nations, CALD, LGBTQIA+ women, and women with disabilities who have faced homelessness. While progress has been made since Beijing 1995, many of its goals remain unmet, making it more urgent than ever to push for systemic change and policy action. Join us in New York on March 18, 2025, as we work towards an inclusive and equitable future for all women. Together, we can turn advocacy into action! #CSW69 #BeijingPlus5 #women_UNSEEN #WomenLeadingChange #InclusivePolicy #Beijing1995 #GenderEquality

  • Jai Jaru: Turning Pain into Purpose Through Art and Advocacy 💛 Jai Jaru, a Sydney-based artist and community worker, has transformed her lived experience of homelessness into a mission to uplift others. Born in Thailand and adopted as a child, Jai faced unimaginable hardship, including life on the streets and traumatic violence. Yet, her journey to secure safe housing ignited a lifelong commitment to supporting vulnerable communities in Sydney and the Philippines. Her motto: 💬 “When you offer homeless women a choice, you restore their hope and dignity.” As the Social Engagement and Innovation Lead for Homeless in Focus, Jai uses creativity and photography to foster self-esteem and community connection. Her powerful exhibition 'Lost Perspectives' captured the raw reality of homelessness and was featured in 'Picturing Home', a documentary by Annette Cohen. Jai’s voice reminds us: 🖤 “We are mothers, sisters, Aunties, Grandmothers. Homeless women are not anonymous statistics. As women, we are not represented as often as men in conversations about homelessness – we deserve to be heard.” 🌱 Help Jai and the MUTTI team take this message to the global stage!
