A new space for art, culture and community in the heart of Bengaluru
About us
At the Museum of Art & Photography (MAP), Bengaluru, our mission is to harness the transformative potential of art, to enrich lives, ignite creativity, and connect people. We make art accessible and engaging for everyone through innovative experiences, meaningful dialogue and building communities. Located in the heart of the city, MAP is home to a growing collection of paintings, sculptures, textiles, photographs, popular culture and more, dating from the 10th century to the present day. The museum spans 6 storeys and includes art galleries, digital experience centres, a dedicated research and conservation lab as well as a shop, cafe, member’s lounge and rooftop alfresco restaurant. MAP is a melting pot of ideas, stories and cultural exchange where we hope to encourage humanity, empathy, and a deeper understanding of the world we live in, through art. Designed by Mathew & Ghosh, the building features a strong focus on accessibility, to support people with disabilities who visit the museum. Designed with steel panels that are embossed with a cross pattern, the facade of the building resembles an industrial water tank, which is meant to bring out the metaphorical connection between the idea of storing something precious: in this case, art. The simple and unique design, material, transparency, and opacity of the building make it an architectural icon in the city of Bengaluru. MAP is proud to announce that we have been awarded with the 15th NCPEDP-Mphasis Universal Design Awards 2024 under the Role Model Companies & Organizations. The National Centre for Promotion of Employment for Disabled People, New Delhi recognises our exceptional contributions towards creating inclusive and accessible environments, and setting remarkable standards in universal design.

🚀 𝐀 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐲'𝐬 𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐨𝐮𝐥 𝐨𝐟 𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞. 𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝟗𝟎 of #100dayschallenge : Learning from podcasts Today, Vijay Raj and I listened to an incredibly enriching podcast featuring Abhishek Poddar , a passionate advocate for art, culture, and heritage. The conversation delved deep into the evolving role of art in society and the immense potential it holds for shaping our identity and future. One of the most striking ideas was how art has gradually shifted from being an everyday part of our lives to something considered elitist, often valued more for its price than its meaning. Abhishek spoke about the intrinsic value of art ,the ability to evoke emotions, provoke thought, and connect people across generations. This reminded me that art is not just about galleries or auctions; it’s about expression and storytelling that define who we are as individuals and communities. A major focus of the discussion was the Museum of Art and Photography (MAP) in Bangalore, a project Abhishek has championed for years. It was fascinating to hear how this museum was born out of a simple but profound question , Why should Indians have to go abroad to see great Indian art?.Abhishek’s determination to make art accessible to everyone led to the creation of MAP, blending technology and heritage in ways I hadn’t thought possible. For example, during the pandemic, MAP hosted a fully digital museum opening, bringing its exhibits to a global audience. It was a testament to how technology can bridge gaps and democratize access to culture. Another thing was how art often serves as the starting point for revolutions and social change. Artists, as Abhishek put it, are the ones living on the edge challenging norms, provoking thoughts, and sparking conversations that eventually shape the world. This perspective shifted how I see art ,it’s not just decorative but transformative, pushing society forward in unique ways. What resonated most with me was the idea that art is medicine for the soul. Whether it’s painting during challenging times, listening to music, or simply appreciating a sculpture, art has a unique way of healing and grounding us. During the pandemic, when the world was locked down, it was art that movies, music, books that kept many of us sane. It is a reminder of why art matters and why it’s worth preserving and celebrating. It’s not just a reflection of our past it’s a guide for our future. #ArtAndCulture #HeritageMatters #ArtForAll #CreativeExpression #InspirationThroughArt #CulturalIdentity #ArtHealing #StoryOfMAP #PreservingHeritage #100DaysChallenge

William Dalrymple makes history come alive at MAP! This week we had the pleasure of hosting the acclaimed author and had the opportunity to show him around the galleries. Reflecting on his visit to MAP he said: “This visit has been long in the planning...it's fantastic to see how magnificently it has played out. I particularly enjoyed all the videos and clever use of graphics in the digital displays. MAP really is magical.” We wish him all the best for his latest book, The Golden Road and hope to see him again at the museum soon! #WilliamDalrymple #MAPBangalore #author #BehindTheScenes

Art isn’t just to be seen; it’s to be shared, celebrated, and co-created! 🎨✨ Let’s rewind to the PRCAI Dialogues at Bangalore’s Museum of Art and Photography (MAP) which was all about art, storytelling, and the magic of collaboration. Here’s what made it unforgettable: 💡 The PRCAI community explored how artists, brands, and corporations can come together to co-create change. Art isn’t just for preserving, it’s for inspiring action and uniting voices. 💡 While museums like MAP conserve and showcase masterpieces, communicators and PR professionals are the storytellers who bring these narratives to the world. 💡 Corporate investments in art are important, but it is strong communication strategies that build appreciation and engagement. The event kicked off with a unique Digital Lamp Lighting ceremony and offered insights from Abhishek Poddar, Founder of MAP, Harinarayan Sharma, CEO of Manipal Foundation, in a discussion moderated by Nidhi Agarwal, Founder of Ebony & Ivory PR. From the art to the conversations, this was storytelling on a whole new level and we’re just getting started! Stay tuned for more exciting PRCAI Dialogues. You would not want to miss what’s coming next! Deeptie Sethi Girish Balachandran #PRCAIDialogues #InfluencingPRogress #MAPBangalore
