It’s been an exciting day welcoming some big talent to NAB.   Today we’ve commenced NAB’s Summer Intern program, Australia’s first NAB StarCamp (part of our Technology Talent Program), and RMIT University’s Global Business Program exchange.   Great to see our welcome sessions buzzing and we look forward to the next few months with this team of future leaders! Across Australia, locally led organisations work tirelessly to ensure their communities can withstand and recover from natural disasters. NAB Foundation recognises the essential work of these groups, announcing $600K in funding to 26 groups through its Community Grants program. Rural Aid is one of these organisations, working across the country to safeguard farming and rural communities before, during and after natural disasters. Rural Aid CEO John Warlters said the funding will help them deliver life changing support during a farmer’s hour of need. “Australia’s farmers are the lifeblood of rural communities. With the help of the grant, we can deliver farm recovery events across Australia, with our team of volunteers lending a hand to rebuild both the land and the livelihoods that are impacted by natural disaster.” Find out more about NAB Foundation’s Community Grant recipients here.

Congratulations to our very own Rachel Slade and Yusra Nizar, who were honoured last night at the Women in Payments Australia 2024 Symposium.   Rachel has been recognised with the Advocate for Diversity Award, for her tireless work promoting diversity and inclusion, both within and externally to NAB.   Yusra was awarded the 2024 Emerging Leader honour, exemplifying the importance of mentorship & allyship with her peers.   Thank you both for your leadership and tremendous contributions to the industry.

NAB has joined BioCatch Trust Australia as part of ongoing efforts to tackle the scam epidemic targeting Australians.    Read more about the first of its kind inter-bank, intelligence-sharing network below.   NAB Executive, Group Investigations Chris Sheehan said the partnership was focused on preventing scams.     “Scammers are grubs who will do anything to rip Australians off. We are committed to innovating and using technology to help stop the crime and protect people,” Mr Sheehan said.    

In 2021, NAB’s Kuok Puok founded NextGen Unite, a youth-led non-profit dedicated to empowering South Sudanese Australians through mentorship, culture, education and sport. “You might think footy is just footy, but there’s so much culture in football,” he said. “They really bring you in, they teach you the slang and they teach you the Australian culture in general. It’s not something you learn at work or at school.” “I’m not just an African in Australia. I’m an African Australian.” This coming weekend, Kuok will be one of over 50 NAB colleagues volunteering at the African Music and Culture Festival (AMCF), the largest celebration of African culture in the Southern Hemisphere embodying harmony, diversity, and inclusion. Remote access scams were among the top scams targeting businesses last year, according to the ACCC’s National Anti-Scam Centre. These scams often begin with an out-of-the-blue phone call from a "telecommunications provider", "technology company" or "bank" requesting remote access to your device to deal with a “virus” or “fix an issue”. Customer Philip Waller shared his experience with a remote access scam to help others recognise the red flags and protect themselves. Read more below.
