Rating tool used to measure a building’s energy efficiency, water efficiency, indoor environment quality, and waste.
About us
NABERS (National Australian Built Environment Rating System) provides simple, reliable, and comparable sustainability measurement across building sectors like hotels, shopping centres, apartments, offices, data centres, and more. We use a simple six-star scale that helps the market to overcome information barriers to invest in energy efficiency, water efficiency, waste reduction and indoor environment improvements. The NABERS program is delivered by industry to commercial property owners and is administered by government. By creating high quality rating tools and working with partners to promote target setting, we aim to stimulate the market for environmental retrofits and drive competition between building owners and managers for better performance. We'll use this page to keep you up to date with the latest NABERS news, as well as to highlight other interesting posts that are relevant to our program.

A big thank you to the Green Building Council of Australia for their kind words and support about our announcement at the EEC Summit. We’re thrilled to launch the NABERS Embodied Carbon rating tool, enabling the industry to take measurable steps towards reducing emissions. Together, we can make a real impact on decarbonising Australia’s built environment.
Today at the EEC’s Building Energy Performance Summit in Melbourne, our friends at NABERS reached a massive milestone with the launch of their Embodied Carbon rating tool. This new tool enables new buildings and partial rebuilds to measure and compare their upfront embodied carbon with similar buildings, empowering developers, owners, and investors to make data-driven decisions that will help us reach our shared climate goals faster 📉 How? In Australia, embodied carbon from construction activity accounts for 10% of our emissions, most of which happen before or during construction, but Infrastructure Australia research shows we can achieve up to a 23% reduction in these emissions by 2027 with simple decarbonisation strategies. By measuring emissions, we can create better strategies to decarbonise the future. We commend NABERS for this important piece of work. We are proud to have contributed and we look forward to supporting the uptake of this tool across industry. Learn more on the NABERS website or dive into the details by checking out the NABERS embodied carbon rules in the PDF below. https://lnkd.in/gcW6k-9B
