Alessia Cascione, Elliott James Ong, and Amélie Uhrig recently travelled to Lampung province, Indonesia, with RECOFTC to assess the feasibility of a new agroforestry project within local supply chains, such as coffee, cocoa, and pepper. This incredibly biodiverse region – home to Siamang gibbons, sun bears, and native orchids – is facing challenges from unsustainable agriculture. NatureCo and RECOFTC are working together to develop a project that uses multipurpose trees to rehabilitate watersheds, restore ecological balance, and enhance ecosystem services while supporting sustainable livelihoods. During the trip, the team reinforced relationships with RECOFTC and local partners, conducted site visits to ground-truth eligibility and consult with communities, and engaged with government agencies to align the project with national priorities. By combining science, community insights, and strong partnerships, we’re working towards a more sustainable and resilient future for Lampung’s landscapes and people.
