  • Did you know that people with disability are at higher risk from home fires and other emergencies than the general population? In fact, 62% of people who die in preventable residential fires have a disability. Under the NDIS Code of Conduct, providers and workers have an obligation to act on any reasonable or obvious fire risks they observe. We've published a new provider alert on Fire Safety Measures to help you understand your responsibilities when it comes to fire safety. Find out more about being 'fire safe' in the Provider Alert and download the Quick Reference Guide to print and display https://bit.ly/4g4ra3E. #PracticeAlertMonday #FireSafety #NDISCommission #NDIS [ID: The words "Fire Safety" in large text on a purple background, above an animated motion graphic of a moving fire symbol in a crossed out circle. The Quality Supports for Children booklet, produced in conjunction with the National Disability Insurance Agency explains what good practice looks like for the provision of NDIS supports and services for children, and includes information on communication, culture, assistive technologies and more. • For this year's International Day of People with Disability, our Associate Commissioner Natalie Wade has shared her thoughts on why we must amplify the leadership of people with disability for an inclusive and sustainable future.   Natalie says, "The NDIS Commission, as the regulator for disability supports and services, plays an important role in ensuring the protection, promotion and advancement of the rights of people with disability. Commissioner Glanville and I are deeply committed to ensuring that we amplify the leadership of people with disability at the Commission to ensure that we, as a Commission, continue to be led by the voice and experience of people with disability."   #IDPwD #IDPwD2024 #NDISCommission

  • The NDIS Code of Conduct is the set of rules that underpin the delivery of NDIS supports and services. It outlines how registered and unregistered providers and workers need to respect and uphold the rights of people with disability to access safe and ethical supports and services. Today we're launching a new animated explainer video about the Code of Conduct to help everyone understand these important rules. The video explains the Code of Conduct in clear and simple language and is provided in English as well as 10 other languages, including Auslan. Watch the English version below or visit our website to watch any of the translations. You can learn more about your obligations under the Code of Conduct at https://bit.ly/49j1bTi.

  • Thanks to everyone who joined our online consultation on Wednesday, we hope you found it valuable. We'll share a link to the recording of the virtual event on our Reform Hub when it's available and we'll also be adding to the list of FAQs on the Hub based on the questions that were submitted. We will forward the questions about plans and eligibility of different therapies onto the NDIA, who manage these issues. As our reform work continues, we've now launched three new surveys on the Reform Hub, seeking your feedback on: 👉 NDIS Act (Bill No. 2) proposed quality and safeguard amendments https://bit.ly/3ATHhBU - closing 20 Dec 2024. 👉 Platform Provider mandatory registration https://bit.ly/3ZvOxxm - closing 7 March 2025. 👉 Supported Independent Living (SIL) and Support Coordinators mandatory registration https://bit.ly/4eQlI2L - closing 7 March 2025. If any of these areas are relevant to you, please take a few minutes to have your say in the surveys. All of the current information about the regulatory reform work we have underway, including links to these surveys and our FAQs, is available on our Reform Hub at https://bit.ly/3YBoFhE.
