The Australian Acoustical Society Conference 2024 brought together some incredible minds to share insights and innovations in acoustics—and #NDY was proud to be part of the conversation. Our team presented two papers during the event: 🔊 'Design and implementation of a masking system for tonal industrial noise emissions'. Tim Beresford (Auckland) and Max Cyril (Perth) explored how NDY's tonality masking system tackles low-frequency noise issues by detecting tones in real time and applying precise masking signals. 📱 'Investigation of the viability of mobile smartphones as sound level meters'. Chenxi Wu (Brisbane) and Kanvin Chen (Melbourne) delved into the potential of smartphones for sound measurement, testing their accuracy against professional sound meters and exploring app calibration features. A big thank you to the AAS for hosting such a fantastic event at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre. Sharing our work with the wider acoustics community is always rewarding—and it’s even sweeter knowing one of these projects went on to win the 2024 Hugh Vivian Taylor Award. Have questions about these papers or their impact? Drop us a comment—we’re always happy to share more! #MakingSpacesWork #Engineering #Acoustics AAAC - Association of Australasian Acoustical Consultants | Jack Wong | Cosentini Associates | Hoare Lea | Glumac | Tetra Tech High Performance Buildings Group

Our acoustics team has hit a high note! We’re thrilled to have won our first Hugh Vivian Taylor Award at the AAAC - Association of Australasian Acoustical Consultants AGM. This award celebrates #NDY’s work on a tonality masking system project in Western Australia. Congratulations to Tim Beresford, Max Cyril and Jack Wong, whose incredible efforts made this achievement possible. The award comes off the back of a paper on the project, presented at the Australian Acoustical Society Conference 2024 on the Gold Coast recently. Stay tuned, we’ll bring you more on that soon. Thanks to the AAAC for this recognition (and to Port Douglas for the scenery). What a wonderful milestone for our acoustics team! #MakingSpacesWork #Engineering #Acoustics Cosentini Associates | Glumac | Hoare Lea | Tetra Tech High Performance Buildings Group

REDEFINING POSSIBILITIES AT 1-4 MARBLE ARCH | Space in London’s West End is always at a premium - but the redevelopment of 1-4 Marble Arch turned that challenge into an opportunity. Ashley Merrett, Director at #NDY, takes us behind the scenes of this transformation, where rethinking traditional mechanical and fire engineering approaches unlocked space without compromising safety. By combining systems in creative ways, the project delivered a modern Grade A building within the constraints of a historic retained facade. In his article, Ashley highlights how these smart design solutions freed up critical space, making room for 16,700 m² (55,000 ft²) of office space and 6,090 m² (20,000 ft²) of retail - all within a structure that balances innovation with heritage. A WEEKEND OF HIGH WINDS AND HIGHER SPIRITS | For those that joined the recent Corporate Games - Australia at Albert Park, you might’ve thought you’d signed up for a sports comp – only to find yourself in Melbourne’s version of “Survivor: Weather Edition”. Over 2 days, our athletes* faced it all: blazing heat, wild winds and a solid downpour to cap it all off. #NDY and our Tetra Tech teammates from RPS took it all in stride, showing up for AFL, soccer, badminton, basketball and golf. Through every gust of wind and every raindrop, energy and enthusiasm stayed high. Huge thanks to everyone who played, cheered, handed out icy poles and even wrangled a marquee in 50 kph winds – this kind of team spirit made it a weekend we won’t forget. *We say “athletes” because anyone determined enough to play sports in that type of extreme weather definitely earns the title! #MakingSpacesWork Tetra Tech High Performance Buildings Group | Cosentini Associates | Glumac | Hoare Lea
