"Australia needs a Stronger PBS to give Australians a better chance at life when faced with serious diseases." – Meredith Cummins, CEO of NeuroEndocrine Cancer Australia. More than 29,350 Australians are currently living with neuroendocrine cancer. This cancer often goes undiagnosed for years due to its wide range of symptoms, meaning many people don’t receive the right treatment until the disease has advanced. A StrongerPBS would mean faster access to newly approved medicines for those facing neuroendocrine cancer and other serious conditions, allowing for timely treatment that can make all the difference. About us
Formerly the Unicorn Foundation, NeuroEndocrine Cancer Australia is the only Australian not-for-profit medical charity focused on neuroendocrine tumours (NET). Formed in 2009, our mission is to improve awareness of neuroendocrine tumours within the medical profession and the general public; foster patient understanding through support groups and raise much needed funding for Australian research in this area. Fortunately, the Australian medical landscape is changing with regards to neuroendocrine tumours with many physicians (Oncologists, Endocrinologists, Gastroenterologists, Radiation Oncologists), Surgeons, Radiologists and Nuclear medicine physicians gaining experience and knowledge. We hope we can work closely, on behalf of neuroendocrine tumour patients and their families with the medical community to achieve our mission.

As a member of the Bridging Funding Coalition, we support the release of a national consensus statement for bridging funding. This would provide earlier, faster, and fairer access to new medicines, bridging the gap between TGA registration and PBS funding, where there is a high unmet need and patients cannot afford the additional expense and the time to wait for a medicine to be listed on the PBS. We are calling on the Government to ensure Australian patients get faster access to medicines by committing to establishing bridging funding for medicines; it is wonderful to see an Expert Implementation Group has been established to rapidly co-design a sustainable criteria and model for bridging funding. Australian patients, their families, and treating clinicians cannot afford the 442 days to make medicines available on the PBS. 👉🏽Go to https://ow.ly/YWg350UhLe4 for more information. #wesupportbridgingfunding

10 November is Neuroendocrine Cancer Day. A day for all neuroendocrine cancer patients, carers, families and healthcare professionals to unite and help to raise awareness for NETs across Australia. The incidence of NETs is STILL on the rise and symptom awareness is key to earlier diagnosis and ultimately better outcomes. In collaboration with the International Neuroendocrine Cancer Alliance (INCA), this year’s Neuroendocrine Cancer Day theme, Easily Missed: Take a closer look at Neuroendocrine Cancer is urging our NET community to share their NET symptoms and personal stories across social media to raise awareness of NETs and encourage earlier diagnosis. On Neuroendocrine Cancer Day, take a closer look at neuroendocrine cancer. #LivingWithNETs #NeuroendocrineCancerDay #NETCancerDay
