At News Corp Australia we’re passionate about fostering a workplace – and an industry – where everyone can thrive, feel supported, and bring their whole selves to work. That’s why we’re proud to highlight voices like Nicole Y. Client Executive at News Corp Australia, who recently shared her inspiring journey with AdNews Australia as part of the Media Federation of Australia DE&I Council’s Changers series. Nicole’s story shines a light on the challenges international professionals face, from navigating #cultural differences to breaking through language barriers and overcoming hiring policies that unintentionally exclude talented individuals. As Nicole shared: "Even with valid work rights, many candidates like me find themselves excluded from opportunities – not because of our skills or potential, but because of our citizenship status. As a result, many international professionals end up in roles that underutilise their expertise." We believe that change starts with listening – actively engaging with #diverse voices, acknowledging their challenges, and using our platform to drive #equity across the media industry. Nicole captured it perfectly: "By fostering open dialogue and implementing more #inclusive practices, leaders can help dismantle the barriers that many face." Here, at News Corp Australia, we’re dedicated and committed to building a workplace and an industry where everyone can thrive and reach their full potential and have the opportunity to succeed. Few understand the challenges of digital publishing better than News Corp Australia's Managing Director of Free News and Lifestyle, Pippa Leary, who recently spoke with B&T's Arvind Hickman to share her vision for the future of news. At the heart of her strategy? A shift from chasing ‘reach’ to prioritising ‘engaged reach’, ensuring we connect meaningfully with audiences and deliver better outcomes for clients. “We’ve been so hooked on that [social media] drug for so long... We need to stand on our own two feet again and work out what would encourage users to come back directly to our sites,” Pippa said. She also emphasised the need for quality, meaningful content: “We’ve got to write deeper, more engaging articles to cater to what the audiences really want, instead of spending time writing clickbait.” This approach focuses on creating deeper, more engaging content that fosters trust and loyalty, while redefining success for both audiences and clients. Celebrating Leadership Excellence: Michael Miller Tops the Mediaweek Australia 100 News Corp Australia is proud to celebrate our Executive Chairman, Michael Miller, being named #1 on the Mediaweek 100 list for 2024. This remarkable achievement highlights his unwavering leadership and strategic vision, guiding News Corp Australia through a challenging business environment while continuing to deliver exceptional value to audiences and partners alike. While Michael was unable to attend the Mediaweek 100 Lunch last Friday, Nicholas Gray, Managing Director & Publisher of The Australian and prestige titles, graciously accepted the award on his behalf. In his exclusive interview with Mediaweeks Editor at Large James Manning, Michael reflected on the current business climate and the challenges faced by the media industry, "It’s been a tougher year for the country. People face cost pressures and aren’t spending like they were. As a result, companies have been more constrained, and that has impacted all in the media. We expect the first half of 2025 to be challenging but are hopeful for a second-half recovery." Michael’s ability to navigate uncertainty while driving innovation across print, digital, and audio platforms underscores why he is so deserving of this recognition. Congratulations, Michael, on this well-deserved honor – your leadership continues to set a benchmark for excellence in Australian media!
