Each year, Council delivers a Women in Sport Breakfast designed to foster gender equity and inclusivity in sport. The event, held at the Eltham Community and Reception Centre, provides a platform for local community sporting groups to come together, listen to inspiring speakers and learn from industry experts. This morning's sold out event was also an opportunity to recognise five ‘Champions of Change’ for their contribution to women in sport in Nillumbik. 💪 Congratulations and thanks go to: • Abbey Grey from the Hurstbridge Hurricanes Basketball Club • Linda Milne from the Diamond Creek Bowling Club • Sherryn Medlicott – Diamond Creek Baseball Club • Christine Deane – Plenty Tennis Club • Carol Jenkinson – Panton Hill Football Netball Club @Community Bank Valley Group

Newly-elected Mayor and Wingrove Ward Councillor John Dumaresq returns to Council after representing Edendale Ward from 2016 to 2020. Cr Dumaresq thanked his fellow councillors for their trust and support in electing him. “Together we’ll make Nillumbik one of the most liveable shires in the world and will continue to focus on sustainability, connectivity and community wellbeing,” Cr Dumaresq said. “I look forward to working with my fellow councillors and staff as Mayor for the next year on a range of projects, including preparation of our Council Plan, a process I encourage our community to participate in when engagement begins early next year.” Bunjil Ward Councillor Naomi Joiner was elected Deputy Mayor in her first year on Council. Along with a fresh perspective, Cr Joiner has extensive experience working in government and has been an active member on a number of community committees. The councillors appointed Councillor Peter Perkins to act as Chairperson for planning matters and Councillor Grant Brooker to act as Chairperson for consultation matters before the Planning and Consultation Committee for the 2024-25 year. Keep an eye out during the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence for our stencilling project around Nillumbik. As part of the campaign, we’ve partnered with local sporting clubs, leisure facilities, and community hubs to stencil ‘Respect Women – Call it Out’ in key locations across the Shire. These stencils remind us of the importance of respect, equality, and calling out disrespect. Together, we can build a community where women, girls, and gender-diverse people feel safe and valued.
