The ONLY 100% Australian owned sugar brand

About us

Sunshine Sugar is a partnership between the grower-owned NSW Sugar Milling Co-operative and the Australian family-owned business, Manildra Group. We own and operate sugar mills at Harwood, Broadwater and Condong and a refinery co-located at the Harwood site. Sunshine Sugar has a turnover in excess of $200m, employs over 600 direct and 600 indirect staff and has a grower base of some 600 farmers. Our growers can produce up to 2.4 million tonnes of sugar cane each year from 34,000 hectares of land. We manufacture private label sugar for some of Australia’s major retailers as well as our own Sunshine Sugar label that is sold through independent grocery stores. We sell refined and raw sugar to over 300 different customers across all types of food and beverage manufacturing, in quantities ranging from 1kg bags to bulk tankers and trucks. We also sell a food grade molasses to various food manufacturers and processors, and a mill molasses to primary producers. Sunshine Sugar is the only 100% Australian owned manufacturer of locally grown, certified sustainable, raw and refined sugar products.

With so many potential hazards on farms, it is always a good time to remind our farming, harvesting and transport partners to remain diligent when it comes to safety. From heavy machinery operation to chemicals, manual handling and mobile phone use – there are real risks that we all need to be mindful of, all the time. Mobile phone use while driving for example, affects attention and response time, hence it is against the law to use a mobile phone while driving on a public road. The same concerns are relevant when driving and operating heavy machinery on farms and private property. The use of a mobile phone creates physical, visual and auditory distractions because drivers and operators divide their attention between using the phone and driving. This type of driver distraction continues to grow as a leading cause of crashes. The heavy vehicle sector is one of the most dangerous workplaces in the country, with an increased risk of fatality that is some 13 times higher than other Australian occupations. Therefore, it is important that all drivers do everything they can to eliminate or minimise risk when behind the wheel – whether on the road or on the farm. For your own safety and the safety of those around you – we urge you to not use your mobile phone whilst operating in the field, on the farm or on the road. Yesterday Norco Co-operative Limited kicked off an important campaign, designed to champion the benefits of buying Australian Owned products and supporting our locally owned businesses. Research we commissioned earlier this year, highlighted the mass confusion that exists with shoppers. Despite cost-of-living pressures, many had increased their support for (what they believed to be) Australian owned brands in recent years, however a whopping 81% were unknowingly buying foreign owned products thinking they were buying Australian owned. That is because many of the household brands we grew up with are no longer in Australian hands, and those that are left are battling it out with cheaper, imported products in many categories, making it harder to compete.  Aussies back Aussies but, but we need to make it clearer for shoppers, which is why Norco joined forces with other great 100% Australian Owned companies – Sanitarium Mayver's Foods SPC Global Ltd and Sunshine Sugar - to tell all Australians that they can confidently add our products to their shopping baskets knowing they are supporting Australian Owned businesses. Because supporting Australian Owned businesses matters – its matters to our farmers, their regional communities, our workforce and the broader Australian economy – by helping to keep hard earned Aussie dollars wholly in the country. The Bring Back Australia app is also a great tool that shoppers can use. With a little education, we can all buy right, buy Australian Owned and keep it in the country.
