Look out for our NSW Health colleagues in the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras parade this Saturday, 1 March. "Marching in the parade demonstrates NSW Health's commitment to both creating a workplace where staff feel valued and respected, and to providing inclusive healthcare for LGBTIQ+ communities," says Lisa Thorpy, co-chair of our Rainbow ACI Working Group. The group strives to make the ACI a more inclusive workplace and supports our contributions towards an LGBTIQ+ inclusive health system. We work with clinicians, consumers and system leaders to design and implement new ways to deliver healthcare in NSW.
About us
The Agency for Clinical Innovation (ACI) works with clinicians, consumers and system leaders to improve the health system in NSW. We design and implement new ways to deliver care for patients. The ACI partners with the Ministry of Health, pillar organisations, local health districts, specialty networks, clinicians, patients and carers. We work together to achieve better value in healthcare by: • improving patient and provider experience • improving patient outcomes • delivering efficient and sustainable healthcare services. The ACI is part of NSW Health's Clinical Innovation and Research Division and works closely with the Office for Health and Medical Research.

We support the health system by generating evidence that's fundamental to healthcare innovation. This evidence base includes clinician and consumer insights, data and analytics, and research and evaluation. Over the past year, this included: 📊 Making complex data more accessible to inform decisions and improve care, through automated, real-time visualisations. 🚑 Evaluating the experience of patients and staff using the NSW Health Urgent Care Services Program, which aims to reduce pressure on emergency departments. 💲 Expanding our research project partnerships, with 40 current projects worth more than $92M in grant funding across a range of clinical areas. The Virtual Health Interpreters Service is a NSW Health Award winning project that prioritises accessibility for multicultural patients as well as improving environmental sustainability. By establishing the virtual service at the Nepean Hospital Women’s and Children’s outpatient department, Luke O'Connell and his Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District (NBMLHD) team significantly reduced travel time for interpreters and patients, and cut related carbon emissions. The project has: ✅ saved the environment more than 5,000 kgCO2e ✅ saved patients and interpreters 22,000 travel kms. Bringing diverse groups of people together to have their say on urgent care is something we're really proud of. Last year we ran 60 focus groups, involving 270+ community members and healthcare professionals, to understand how to improve equitable accesses to urgent care services. Our discussions focused on people who can face barriers accessing healthcare, such as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people; older people; migrants and refugees; those living with a disability; and more. Outcomes from these sessions will inform future planning for urgent care services.
