Earlier this year we posted about our Senior Marine Scientist, Nadene Claydon, mentoring at the St Mary’s Anglican Girls’ School i3 program. The student teams created an app or website idea which could help address one or more of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, and last week they presented to a panel of judges in the final showcase.
Nadene mentored Team 11 who created Food Friends, a website where cafes or restaurants, delivery volunteers, and shelters could sign up to give, deliver and receive leftover food. Over the year they learnt more about themselves and developed their technical and presentation skills to deliver a persuasive pitch. Congratulations Team 11 on an amazing achievement!
A special congratulations also to the winning team on the day who designed an app, 'Splash', that encourages children to learn more about the ocean and how they can protect it. As marine scientists, this is an initiative which we believe could only benefit our discipline!
We are privileged to be able to support programs like this, along with other forward-thinking companies and organisations, to ensure STEM skills for the future.
