  • What is Surf Therapy and Why Does it Matter? Surf therapy, a structured intervention using surfing to achieve therapeutic benefits, is making waves in health research. Studies show it supports mental and physical well-being across diverse groups, from children with disabilities to military veterans and at-risk youth. Programs like Ocean Mind demonstrate how surfing fosters interpersonal skills, self-efficacy, and emotional regulation. By combining mentorship, natural settings, and evidence-based practices, surf therapy addresses barriers to traditional treatments. • We’re proud to see Ocean Mind featured in groundbreaking research by Dr. Lisa Olive and Deakin University, highlighting the transformative impact of surf therapy. The study revealed that our six-week program significantly improves mental health outcomes in young participants, reducing symptoms of depression, anxiety, and emotional difficulties. In a time when traditional approaches may not resonate with everyone, alternative therapies like surf therapy offer a fresh perspective. As highlighted in Dr. Lisa Olive’s research with Ocean Mind, our six-week programs provide an experiential, nature-based solution that aligns with the lifestyle of young people. This recognition reinforces our commitment to providing innovative, evidence-based support for young people. 📖 Read more about this impactful research here:

Ocean Mind is incredibly proud to present the first "Let It Rip" music event to bring the community together and raise some funds so we can continue delivering free community programs for young people facing challenges. Torquay Surf Life Saving Club is hosting the event, and we are stoked to put this on at such an iconic Surf Coast venue. The lineup is AMAZING and features Watty Thompson and his Total Fire Band, Chitra, Sargent Baker and Jake Hunniford - all brilliant local talent from across the Surf Coast and Bellarine Peninsula. All money raised will go towards continuing our mission of providing a place for young people to feel safe, experiencing meaningful connections and reach their potential both in and out of the water.
