We are thrilled to announce the appointment of Albert Jamae as our new Director of Client Relations. With over 30 years of experience in the arts, media, and entertainment industries, Albert brings exceptional expertise in storytelling and community engagement. As we approach 26 January - a day of reflection for all Australians - we are reminded of the urgency to amplify First Nations voices and continue the momentum for meaningful Reconciliation. Our Founder and CEO, Peramangk and Ngarrindjeri woman Rebecca Wessels highlights the critical need for action: “It greatly disturbs me that despite decades of effort and billions of dollars, nine out of the 19 Closing the Gap targets are not on track, and shockingly, four are worsening! At Ochre Dawn, we are determined to keep the momentum alive, collaborate with our allies, and walk together to create extraordinary impact.” Albert’s history of creating award-winning film productions such as ‘The Art of Reconciliation’ and ‘Mob Talks’ makes him an invaluable addition to our team. On his new role, Albert shared: “Storytelling is at the heart of what drives me. Joining Ochre Dawn allows me to work with First Nations artists and organisations to deliver the impact and change we so urgently need.” Ochre Dawn, based on Kaurna Country in South Australia, has been a leader in delivering creative solutions that celebrate and respect First Nations cultures. From RAP design, consulting and workshops to integrating First Nations artwork into commercial projects, we are committed to driving Reconciliation and addressing Closing the Gap targets. With Albert Jamae joining our leadership team, we are excited to guide more organisations in their Reconciliation journeys and create lasting change. As 26 January approaches, we invite you to reflect on your own journey and join us in fostering a shared future of understanding, respect and collaboration. #Reconciliation #FirstNations #Storytelling #ClosingTheGap #OchreDawn

The Ochre Dawn team recently spent the day together connecting with each other, learning about culture from Petiola Wilson (Kaurna, Ngarrindjeri) and creating intentions for impact in the year ahead. 🪃💭 We started the day being Welcomed to Kaurna Country by Petiola and participating in a Smoking Ceremony; acknowledging the Kaurna ancestors and cleansing us of bad spirits alongside Michael Connelly (Wiradjuri) who played the Yidaki. Petiola delivered his Cultural Motivation Training for our team, increasing our awareness of First Nations culture and understanding of the parts of history that have shaped today. Days like these connect our team to country, culture and community. We walked away renewed, with open minds and ready to continue our journey of Reconciliation and healing. 🖤 Thank you Petiola & Michael.

Have you been wondering about the spelling of ‘blak’ in this year’s NAIDOC theme “Keep the fire burning: Blak, Loud & Proud”? This NAIDOC Week, we pay tribute to Destiny Deacon, the First Nations artist who introduced the term 'blak' and sadly passed away a few months ago. "Destiny represents what blak excellence is, and it is what we all strive for as artists. She dreamt big, she pushed boundaries, and she reshaped and defined a new dialogue in contemporary Australian Art." Read more about Destiny’s legacy of art and life, plus why she changed the spelling of “black” to “blak” here: https://lnkd.in/gqygtQGJ #naidoc2024 #blakexcellence #firstnationsart
