  • Congratulations to the team at RAK PORTS on this record breaking achievement. OMC International is proud to provide its Dynamic Under Keel Clearance (DUKC®) solution for Saqr Port. DUKC® allows vessels to safely sail with deeper drafts and more cargo, and wider sailing windows. Furthermore, DUKC® facilitates avoidance of CO2 emissions through enhancing the utilization of each vessel. RAK Ports was recognized by the International Association of Ports and Harbors (IAPH) through the World Ports Sustainability Program for the contribution towards the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals achieved through their implementation of DUKC®.

Excited to share my latest published paper in the International Journal of Offshore and Polar Engineering! The paper, titled "Estimation of Vessel Center of Gravity Using Inertial Measurement Units in Random Waves for Enhanced Navigational Safety," introduces a novel method for estimating the vertical and longitudinal center of gravity (VCG & LCG) from live vessel motion. A big thank you to OMC International for supporting our innovative R&D efforts and fostering technological advancement. • One of the developments showcased in our recent newsletter is TransitAnalyst. This Big Data and AI technology is now in widespread use across more than 50 ports and waterways in 7 countries. We’ve reached significant milestones, including a database surpassing 1 billion AIS data points and 200,000 transits and counting. New data flows in at a rate of 50 position reports every second, ensuring our clients have access to up-to-date, actionable insights. For some of our clients, 2024 marked another achievement: surpassing 10,000 past pilotage jobs in their individual databases, cementing TransitAnalyst as an integral part of their operations. Users of TransitAnalyst are constantly uncovering new insights and finding innovative ways to leverage the technology to tackle an increasingly diverse array of port operational challenges. These include safely accommodating larger vessels, reviewing operational thresholds for winds and currents, identifying PPU faults, assessing tug utilisation, and pilot training. • We recently released our end of year newsletter, highlighting some of the projects and developments we've been involved with throughout 2024. Throughout the calendar year, the Technical Engineering, Support, and Account Management teams tackled approximately 1,250 helpdesk tasks and conducted over 30 onsite visits to maximise the value our clients derive from OMC's systems and services. Key projects for 2024 include channel design and realignment studies, dredge optimisation and volume determination, investigations into vessel modelling and its aligning to operations, amalgamated vessel swept path analysis in conjunction with shoal spots, and the creation of countless met-ocean dashboards to enhance situational awareness. We continue to strive for best practice approaches to ensure the cyber integrity and availability of OMC's infrastructure and systems for both internal and external stakeholders. This year saw the completion of internal and external audits for our Security Management System, audited against the latest international standards. We also continue to work to ensure our systems and processes meet compliance requirements across all applicable legislation including the latest amendments to the SOCI Act. • OMC International had the privilege of being recognised for providing 30 years of continuous service to Fremantle Ports. The DUKC® was commissioned in 1994, initially for the bp vessels, with the Port of Fremantle being the first port globally to use DUKC® for tankers and inbound vessels. Later, the Inner Habour was added to the system, making Fremantle the first port to use DUKC® for container vessels. Fremantle Ports CEO Jodie Ransom presented OMC's Founder Dr Terry O'Brien and CEO Peter O'Brien with a plaque during the Fremantle Ports Maritime Day Celebration hosted at the beautiful Fremantle Sailing Club by the Company of Master Mariners of Australia (WA Branch) and kindly sponsored by Svitzer. The plaque depicts the arrival of the MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company MSC Sindy in March 2020 (during COVID lock down), which at a draught of 14.6m was the deepest ever vessel in the Fremantle Harbour. We would like to acknowledge the various personnel involved in delivering this innovative technology to Fremantle Ports, and all those we've collaborated with since to continue to develop solutions to safely facilitate larger, deeper ships, minimise dredging, and reduce carbon emissions.
