Today is National Closing The Gap Day. On the third Thursday in March each year, Australians are encouraged to refocus their efforts on Closing the Gap. "Close the Gap" refers to government policies to reduce disparities between First Nations Peoples and the broader population in areas like education, health, employment, and housing. Monitored by the Productivity Commission, these policies began in 2008 with six targets, later expanding to 19 in 2020. Despite efforts, the gaps persist, prompting a renewed focus on involving First Nations communities in policy design through collaboration with the Coalition of Peaks.
