Loose Parts Playspace - LORDS There are many different ways in which schools create loose parts play areas. Loose-parts play offers children endless opportunities for creativity, problem-solving, and discovery. By using open-ended materials like sticks, stones, fabric, and recycled items, children can build, imagine, and experiment in ways that support their cognitive, physical, and social development. We often have discussions with schools regarding the use, access, organisation, and storage of loose parts. There are many solutions that we develop for loose parts play area and this project at LORDS is a great example. We provided garden beds, a variety of spaces, and surfaces. With logs, rocks, and boulders for students to climb, construct, build, and create. The shipping container sides are open to allow easy and free access for students to come and go. We cannot wait to see this space in action! #NaturePlay #LoosePartsPlay #PlayfulLandscapes

Child-led Design At Orterra, we believe that the best playgrounds are those where kids lead the way. Through child-led design, we create spaces that ignite curiosity, encourage exploration, and foster creativity—giving children the freedom to imagine, play, and grow. By collaborating with communities and listening to young voices, we craft environments that are not only fun but also support physical, social, and emotional development. Every element is designed with purpose, blending playfulness with nature to inspire a lifelong connection with the outdoors. Let’s reimagine play together. #ChildLedDesign #PlaygroundDesign

New Blog Post Alert! Commercial landscape design often comes with a unique set of challenges, as projects must satisfy council requirements while achieving the client’s vision. This project involved transforming a single dwelling on a 7,050m² site into six residential lots. Click the link below to read how we worked with the client to overcome these challenges in our latest blog post! #newblogpost #commerciallandscapedesign

Tree City, Moggil - This new build property had substantial requirements in regards to tree replacement. The shape, topography and location of services on this block along with the mature size and number of the trees required to be planted created some interesting challenges. We developed a design which fit exactly in with the character of the new house the clients were building. We maintained the views over the treetops which they loved and captured the surrounding bushland to ensure their property felt like it was larger and part of the surrounding bushland. This custom front fence and unique fire pit area finished off the pool entertaining space for this family home. #orterradesign #treecity #residentiallandscapedesign

Check out this post by the Australian Wildlife Conservancy. Australia’s biodiversity is being choked by invasive weeds, click the link to find out how they’re tackling this problem. https://lnkd.in/gPNmj_6M
Rain + warmer weather = a very weedy problem! 🌿❌ Australia’s biodiversity is being choked by invasive weeds. More than 2,700 alien plants are displacing and threatening native species and transforming ecosystems. Weeds have a range of impacts on vegetation and ecological processes – some, especially the fast-growing grasses, can greatly increase fire hazards. All compete with native plants and can significantly degrade habitat. Between March 2023 – 2024, AWC teams treated or removed over 92,000 weeds, resulting in more than 14,000 hectares of habitat in recovery from weed infestation. Find out more about our weed management strategy and how we’re tackling invasive species 👉 https://lnkd.in/gMA8wqsX 📸 W Lawler, A Howe, B Leue/AWC #AWC #AustralianWildlifeConservaqncy #WeedStrategy #Weeds #InvasivePlants #Weeds #InvasiveSpecies #BiodiversityInCrisis

Deebing Creek Bikeway The extension of the bikeway along Deebing Creek required sensitivity in the design. The aim of the design was to ensure minimal disturbance to the existing landscape. The bikeway project aimed to integrate the new with the existing seamlessly. The new planting using all native species endemic to the area aimed to ensure the paths feel as though they had always been part of the area. Ensuring the path had enough shade was a major consideration in tree placement across the project. #Plantingdesign #planting
