Tyres are one of the major potential safety hazards on mine sites, which is why our teams are always looking to identify new solutions and opportunities to ensure our industry leading tyre management procedures continue to keep our teams safe.    Last month our HSEQ Manager, Barry Henderson and Site Supervisor, Mitchell Pettigrew, attended the annual Queensland Mining Industry Health & Safety Conference to get the latest updates and thinking around safety in mining operations. Here's some of the key take-aways:    ❇ Innovation in Safety Practices: The importance of integrating new technologies to enhance safety protocols. The use of AI and data analytics is transforming how we approach risk management, ensuring a safer work environment for all workers.    ❇ The Role of Supervision in Culture: The pivotal role supervisors have in shaping workplace culture. Effective leadership and active engagement from supervisors can drive safety practices and foster an environment where employees feel empowered to prioritise safety and well-being.    ❇ Customisable Approach to Risk-Based Thinking: Importance of adopting a customisable approach to risk-based thinking, particularly regarding critical (fatality) risks. Tailoring risk management strategies to specific contexts allows organisations to better address their unique challenges and improve overall safety outcomes.    Our team also found Joshua Jones's powerful speech, recounting a tyre fitting incident in which he sustained horrific injuries, and his workmate unfortunately lost his life, to be an incredibly moving and inspiring message. Highlighting the critical importance of safety measures and the profound impact of sharing real-life experiences, Joshua’s speech reinforced the importance of a safety and accountability culture.
