Over the past two days, PeakCare Queensland has been deeply engaged with the sector, workshopping the future of the residential care workforce. It’s been an incredible opportunity to bring together a diverse group of voices—young people with lived experience, parents, educators, youth workers, service providers, and government representatives—all committed to shaping what comes next. Make sure you keep up to date with the implementation of the Queensland's new Child Safe Organisations legislation. This legislation is the biggest improvement to child safeguarding in Queensland history and will help our state to build a culture of safety and wellbeing for all children. Queensland Family and Child Commission (QFCC) knows that some organisations will require support to make these changes and build their knowledge and capacity to be child safe. To help with this QFCC will be launching the Child Safeguarding Grants Program. There will be almost 💰 $3 million available for eligible organisations to apply for funding to deliver projects. The QFCC is implementing Queensland’s new Child Safe Organisations legislation. This is the biggest improvement to child safeguarding in Queensland’s history and will help our state to build a culture of safety and wellbeing for all children. Under the new legislation, more than 40,000 organisations across Queensland that deliver services to children or manage facilities where children spend time will need to implement Child Safe Standards and the Universal Principle to become compliant and considered child safe. The QFCC knows that some organisations will require support to make the required changes and build their knowledge and capacity to be child safe. To help, the QFCC will soon be launching the Child Safeguarding Grants Program. There will be almost $3 million available for eligible organisations to apply for funding to deliver projects. PeakCare Queensland encourages all Queensland Parent's with Child Safety experience within the past 5 years to have their say in the Department of Families, Seniors, Disability Services and Child Safety #parentsurvey ✨ The survey is anonymous — you cannot be identified. It asks questions about your experience. ✨ An independent group called the Social Research Centre is running the survey. They are not allowed to share your individual survey answers with Child Safety. ✨ The survey is a collaboration between: Family Inclusion Network, including parents with child safety experience Queensland Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Child Protection Peak Ltd Department of Families, Seniors, Disability Services and Child Safety Your voice matters. Your voices, experiences, and insights have shaped a sector-wide action plan that will guide our next steps in advocacy and reform. The Sector Voices Report provides an action plan for change, addressing key themes identified by the sector: 🔸 Children & Young People – Ensuring their voices shape decisions and advocating for better support systems that prioritise their safety, wellbeing, and future opportunities. 🔸 Workforce – Strengthening recruitment, retention, and professional development to build a resilient and well-supported workforce. 🔸 Relationships & Collaboration – Enhancing partnerships between government and the sector to improve service delivery, consistency, and cross-agency cooperation. 🔸 Whole of System – Advocating for a more integrated, equitable, and sustainable child and family services system, with a strong focus on early intervention and prevention to keep families together wherever possible. PeakCare Queensland CEO Tom Allsop was pleased to catch up with the Shadow Minister for Child Safety Corrine McMillan MP recently. It was great to be able to talk about the important issues in our sector and what needs to be done to improve outcomes for children, young people and families.
