  • We understand that foundational supports are meant to bridge the gap between NDIS and mainstream services. However, we are deeply concerned about the current lack of adequate mainstream supports for children with identified delays

  • We support the recommendations from the NDIS Review for a connected system of supports across mainstream services, foundational supports, and early intervention pathways to NDIS for children with the highest needs. We understand that foundational supports aim to help children meet developmental milestones, be included and participate in their communities, and support their overall emotional, physical and mental health—core goals that have long guided allied health in the disability sector

  • It is clear, the only solution to deliver the outcomes expected is if all mainstream and specialist services work together. The scope and nature of change is so significant that if all sectors are not involved it is likely to create gaps in service and long delays. Involving all sectors represented in discussions and contribution to the building of a system of Foundational Supports is fundamental.

  • The NDIS was never meant to be the “only lifeboat in the ocean”, yet with state governments stepping back from service provision, that is the reality. With foundational supports not set to begin to take shape until July 2025, vulnerable children are being cast off the “lifeboat” and into the open ocean of uncertainty, causing immense distress and further eroding trust in the system.
