Sunset in the Pilbara! Usually this means the day is ending. In this instance the work is only just beginning as the team prepare to look for Olive Python on a recent survey. Thanks to Sarah Woodiss-Field for the great picture! Our fauna section are well versed in both day and night work, and we have robust safety procedures and protocols for both. It all depends on when is the best time to find the creatures. Last month saw our Fauna Section take a trip to Dryandra to learn all about Numbats. A great day was had by all and some fantastic photos captured of this endangered species. This training was well timed as we are conducting a number of Numbat surveys for our clients and wanted to widen the knowledge base amongst our crew. Thanks to Tamara from Numbat Niche Consulting for providing our team with this excellent training exercise. Excellent photos (as always) from Kerryn Fox and Floyd Holmes. If you would like to learn more about our Numbat survey capability please get in touch. https://lnkd.in/gwWgwh3T #teamphoenix #numbat #zoology #environmentalconsultant #environmental

No one for miles. Our surveys really are remote! This photo from a recent Pilbara based Botany survey really puts our work into perspective. Our team are used to working in the middle of nowhere and we have strict safety protocols in place to make sure we all get home safely. Thanks to Brody L. for this epic shot. Here at Phoenix Environmental Sciences we run a photo of the month competition amongst the staff. This Tarantula was the September winner. This specimen is an example of Selenocosmia stirlingi or the common whistling spider. What an amazing find! Congratulations to Brendan Thomson for taking such a sensational pic. Cant wait to see what takes the prize for October. This picture was captured during a recent survey in the Southwest of WA. Not your average Taxi! Our Botany survey team captured their transport leaving having dropped them off at their survey point. Now the commute is over the hard work has to begin. Thanks to Andrew Perkins for snapping this moment during one of our recent Pilbara surveys. All in a days work for our team. Stunning colours of the Calytrix carinata. This great photo was taken by our Senior Taxonomist Andrew Perkins on a recent survey near Nullagine in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. What a magnificent specimen. Another magical video of the elusive Northern Quoll captured by our remote camera network. The Northern Quoll are classified as Endangered. Threats include being hunted by feral cats, dingoes and foxes, particularly after fire or grazing has removed protective ground cover. Destruction of the quoll's habitat due to land clearing is also significant. Surveying for these endangered creatures and helping protect their environmental value is a magnificent part of the work we do at Phoenix. One of our botanists took this great video of the threatened flora Quoya zonalis being pollinated by a beetle. Also known as the Pilbara Foxglove, this plant is found in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. The beetle has ben identified as Castiarina quadrifaciata. Isn't it great to see a threatened species being pollinated! Thanks to Luis Buchan for capturing such a great moment. A day in the life of the Phoenix team. In this snap one of our team mates Patrick Williams is searching for birds during a recent Pilbara based survey.
