Picaluna is all about offering genuine, personal funerals, helping community to honour, mourn and celebrate.

About us

Picaluna is a network of professional Funeral Planners and Celebrants who offer a better way to say goodbye. We empower families by organising truly inspirational, authentic and beautiful farewells, leading a revolution in the funeral industry. Picaluna gives families time to make creative choices, rather than forcing them to conform to the expensive, cookie-cutter practices of an industry that’s slow to evolve. We give families all the freedom, guidance and time they need to create a truly bespoke and fitting farewell. Our funerals come in all shapes and sizes, often held in a park, social club, beach or even at home. And there are no time constraints. We are open and transparent about how we work and the cost of our services. We are a community-driven company and we give back by donating 10% of the profit from the funeral to a charity of the family’s choice.

  • When a loved one dies, it can be challenging to process the emotions and sense of loss when everything seems to be moving so quickly. Our celebrants often take a moment during the funeral ceremony to slow things down and give everyone time to pause, reflect and connect with those around them. These moments can be incredibly powerful, help create clarity, invoke warm memories and slow down the pace. Silence and heart-centred meditation can help, and so can a unique piece of music. These simple things help focus the mind and give the mourner time to process and be present in the moment. Picaluna believes that a skilled celebrant will guide those left behind through the complex emotional terrain of the funeral, carefully choosing words to create the right atmosphere, encourage reflection and help those gathered feel safe and supported. If you'd like to know how we're helping communities and families mourn and heal after the passing of a loved one, please get in contact. W: www.picaluna.com P: 1 300 297 009

  • How do you choose between a funeral service or a memorial service? As funeral directors, we're often asked what the main differences are between them and how to manage family priorities and cultural and religious considerations. There are many factors to consider, and it can feel overwhelming during a time of grief. We've written a blog outlining the decision-making process to help you choose the most appropriate option for the person being farewelled, the family, and their friends. https://lnkd.in/gMqHGHDw If you'd like to learn more about how we're helping people create more personal funerals, please get in contact. • As a longstanding member of the Rural Fire Service, Dick was a mentor and passionate advocate for its services. His passing was felt strongly by the Hawkesbury community, who regarded him highly and came to show their final respects. Uniformed members of the #RFS took this opportunity to show their admiration for a comrade who stood shoulder to shoulder with them in the toughest of times with a guard of honour. The guard of honour has long been a part of how we show admiration for someone making their final journey; once again, a group or community comes together and stands shoulder to shoulder in the toughest of times. This simple yet powerful gesture can help start the healing process for those left behind by leaving a powerful memory of how much love and respect the community had for them. • A funeral ceremony can be about celebrating a life lost and saying goodbye; it may also be where the healing process begins. Family and friends gather, connect and communicate their emotions. Tears are shed, stories are told, and those left behind are reminded they are not alone. Sometimes, the warmth of human touch can speak louder than words. Reaching out and touching a hand, sharing a warm embrace, or even standing near someone can help ease the pain. Picaluna helps create an environment where the bereaved can connect and support each other. We know our role in the funeral space is a privilege, and our team is proud of the work they do and the kindness they share. • The centrepiece for Ralph's coffin was a beautifully colourful arrangement of fruits and flowers. It was a tribute to his life's work as a highly regarded agriculturalist and orchardist. Ralph was recognised worldwide as a trailblazer for his innovative approach to orchard fruit production.   Even during his retirement on the coast, far from his orchards in Batlow, he transformed his new backyard to provide locally produced fruit for the area.   An unmistakable din of cicadas filled the air in his home orchard as family and friends gathered to say their final goodbyes to a man who had achieved so much in the field he loved. Picaluna believes that beautiful ceremonies don't need to be complex. Funerals that reflect the passions and life's work of the person they celebrate can be as simple as a well-considered location with visual reminders to help those gathered to connect with memories and start the healing process. • Would you serve Paella at a funeral? Eileen was creative and communicative and connected with friends and family from her native England, Australia and worldwide. Her memorial was reflective of all those marvellous elements and more. In a ceremony filled with live music, heartfelt words, and displays of Eileen's creativity, those in the room were also blessed with the smells of a giant paella being made. The ceremony was held in a local Surf Lifesaving Club, where the cooking area sat alongside the function room. As the memorial service began, so did the cooking. By the end, all the attendees had their hearts full of memories of Eileen, knowing they would soon have their bellies full of a beautiful paella made in her honour. We believe Eileen would have been proud of this unique celebration of her caring and devotion. Our team strives to create meaningful and appropriate funerals for the deceased, their family, and their community. If you'd like to find out more, please contact us. • In support of our Charity Partner, the Indigenous Literacy Foundation (ILF), Picaluna team members volunteered to wrap Christmas presents to raise money for their cause.  This incredible organisation is dedicated to improving literacy rates among Indigenous Australians by providing books, resources, and publishing opportunities. They empower remote communities to create and share their stories and foster cultural pride, language preservation, and educational opportunities. Through their efforts, the ILF is helping bridge the literacy gap many Indigenous children face.  We're proud of the charity partnerships we have formed, and we will continue to donate 5% of our profit to our partners in the future. • For hundreds of years, the beauty of a red rose has symbolised love and grief in a way few things can. The pain of loss can take words from a bereaved person's mouth and leave them in a position where they can't describe or even share the feeling of loss they are enduring. Placing a red rose on the coffin can give those left behind a simple way to share emotions and start the process of healing. The team here at Picaluna believe in the power of symbolism and ritual when it comes time to say goodbye to a loved one. We encourage those left behind to find meaningful ways to express their last goodbyes as an integral part of mourning. Please get in touch with us if you'd like to learn more about our work.
