Her Excellency the Honourable Barbara Baker AC and Emeritus Professor Don Chalmers AO traded their official duties for a captain's adventure at Pivot Maritime International. Under the watchful eyes of our simulation experts, our guests masterfully navigated virtual waters – from commanding a nimble fast craft at Port of Melbourne on our Moving Platform simulator to steering the mighty Spirit of Tasmania in our 20-foot Container Simulator. Who knew maritime simulation could bring out the seafarer in everyone? The gleam in Their Excellencies' eyes as they took control of our Moving Platform Simulator said it all. You're twisting, turning, even flipping a full 360° as you navigate your virtual vessel into port. Pivot latest creation: Motion Sim Chair.   Designed to simulate Fast Craft movements and manoeuvres, the Motion Sim Chair assists navigators in maintaining navigational safety in challenging conditions.   The Motion Sim Chair debuted at the 2024 Land Forces exhibition in Melbourne last September, with select attendees from Australia and overseas testing the accuracy of vessel movements and realism of the visual environment. Through a high-definition screen above the Motion Sim Chair, onlookers shared what the navigator on the Motion Sim Chair saw within the VR headset. What aspects of this technology excite you most? 🇦🇺🙌 The Royal Australian Navy has launched two new containerized bridge simulators to prepare future Arafura-class offshore patrol vessel operators. The training systems will support realistic rehearsals on coastal navigation, fleet interoperability, confined waters pilotage, and related bridge operations at sea. Huge shoutout to Team Defence Australia for what they do for the Australian Defence Industry. Last year, at Sea Air Space 2023, the US Secretary of the Navy Carlos Del Toro came for a good preview of advanced technology from Australian industry. This year, at Sea Air Space 2024, we had US Chief of Naval Operations, Admiral Lisa Franchetti, and Commander of the Royal Canadian Navy, Vice-Admiral Angus Topshee. Deputy Chief of the Royal Australian Navy, Rear Admiral Jonathan Early, was also there and gave amazing industry support. Congratulations and gratitude goes to our senior military leads, Rear Admiral (Ret) Ian Middleton and Air Vice-Marshal (Ret) Gavin Turnbull, for creating these opportunities and assisting companies to get critical US Defence contracts.
