About us
Pookipoiga is one of the prominent online gift delivery services (with the most options) from Australia, which includes anything from Fashion to chocolates to books to much much more! Stocking all goodies in their premises in Melbourne on 64 Bridge Road, Richmond. "Pookipoiga" is a Finnish word (or in Finnish Pyykkipoika) which literally translates to "little washer boy" or "Laundry boy", which is normally used in Finnish for "clothes peg". The name particularly relates as they are encouraging to clean up landfill in a unique way! Pookipoiga evolved from an idea that the world is a great place and we need to do more to look after it. So, that's a start, but where do we go from here? People love things, so we should probably sell things, but what things? And what could be good for the world? Pookipoiga focus on products that people love and make sure that they are ethical, sustainable and fair trade before it comes into the store. We stock a lot of different goodies, although we are particularly in love with: Australian Natural Soap Company, MORK hot chocolates, Bennetto chocolates, DENZ recycled stainless steel earrings, Champ recycled Aeroplane tyre coasters and earrings, Elvis and Kresse upcycled firehose bags, belts and cufflinks, Sabine and Sparrow baby goodies, Gail C Ceramics, Mojo upcycled candles, Summer Salt Body, Apiary Made beeswax wraps, Topheads sunglasses, Organics for Lily teas , Milton Ashby, Thurlby Herb Farm insect repellents, Lore Lore knitwear, Nine Yaks, Conscious Step socks, and Able and Game cards. A lot of our suppliers do great work with communities, which is a big reason why we work with them, but we also have a spirit of giving in our store (virtual and real). We have fundraising nights with cheese, wine, art and fun - follow on social or subscribe to our newsletter. For every purchase, we donate a meal to vulnerable Australians through SecondBite. You buy something, someone eats something and food doesn't get wasted- win win win!

We cruised for 9 years on @bridgerd.richmond. Keep in touch, you wonderful people. We will miss you all very much❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ A week has gone past and we don't want to close 😭😭😭😭😭😭. We have had an overwhelming amount of support in the last few weeks and months. Melbourne leads a lot in arts and culture and we like to explore that in the products we have. Without a brick and mortar, we know it is going to be tricky just to give a full experience online! We've decided to extend our closing date to July 22nd to accommodate some of our regulars returning from overseas and to take the opportunity to meet as many people before we go from the street. Let's cherish these final days together— join us for our very last days here from 11-3 on weekdays and 10-4 on Saturdays. Your continued presence means the world to us! 🎉🎉🎉 More Pics from Victor Daniel Photography from the event coming soon. if you need to send gifts or need corporate gifts, have a look at www.pookipoiga.com 🎉🎉🎉. We look forward to serving you the best way possible of regardless of which channel we are on! Thank you Carolyn Stebbing Kylie Weir Joel Pillar, among the 150 odd people who came for our event and supported in the 3 hrs we were open with our event last Thursday. Thank you for coming and making our day 😃😊🎉🎉🎉 (and many of you who couldn't make but here in spirit). We couldn't have done without each one of you! Special mention to Victor Daniel Photography (this local legend focuses on wedding photography) Megan Tingate for the delicious brownies and moral support! Satheesh Parangan and Kannan (dad son team) and Prashikha Chhetri for the ground work 🤗 @mt view hotel for the wine glasses to make the event #zerowaste Little Bridge Cafe for catering the beautiful zatar, dips and snacks! If you haven't been there check them out!😃 Lisette Malatesta and East Melbourne General Store for helping out with wines and generally showering their kindness @cookatoo_kitchen for snack gifts and @ for the special bouquet 🎉. Thank you to Jeremy Hope , @Claire from @winning edge presentations and @bridgerd.richmond team for all their support. As locals we need to get behind them - It takes a whole village! It is not a good bye, it is just a new beginning! Thank you for all the well wishes and support throughout the 9 years 🎉🎉🎉❤️❤️❤️🙏🙏🙏 #gratitude #bittersweet #smallbusiness #oneofakind

This week marks our final hurrah event in Richmond, Melbourne. If any adventurous and exploring souls haven't discovered us yet, it would truly be a shame. People from across the globe visit us here for our stories, some just stumble or some seek us out like the Boston College who joined us last month for the sustainability study tour. After 15th of this month, our pioneering Bike Chain Shelving and the Toorak Mansion table will no longer showcase our treasures as we transition online. If Upcycling, art and unusual objects are a thing for you, have a look and put an offer! Our digital experience is unparalleled, featuring unique offerings like our in-house Happy Birthday singing in six languages, playing recipients' favorite songs—even footy anthems upon request! We eagerly anticipate continuing to serve you all before 15th. There is a 20 percent off ( goes up to 50% off on items that are already discounted - use code Bonvoyage64 at checkout online- delivery and pick up options from Richmond) on the entire store to make our transition smoother and show our gratitude. Think of a mini department store with anything from plastic free hair ties to recycled cards that grows into plants to firehoses turned into cuffs to natural insect repellents which last you years and smells nice (unlike the moth balls). The Journey continues at www.pookipoiga.com Where ever we go, we aim to serve the best way possible. xx Team Pookipoiga! ( Little Washer boy in Finnish - Finnish people call it for a clothes peg when they want to do washing/cleaning) PS: We kept this name as we started this as a landfill cleaning project supporting local and social businesses who upcycled stuff and then the journey took us to being where we are now as a gift store, tons of materials removed from the landfill and helping various different charities over the time ranging from Oxfam to SecondBite to OzHarvest to @OneVoice ( too many to name here!). Also every purchase donates a meal which is from rescued food (through SecondBite currently) so little washer boy is cleaning the landfill every time and doing good in many different ways.

Have you ever deliberately made the time for you next major move? Well we still will continue as one of the top rated Melbourne Gift delivery services for now :)
Bringing Joy | Connecting People and Planet | Leading Australia's Premier Gifts and Hamper Delivery Service
Sometimes we've got to shrink to think! After 9 decent years, our exploratory store of Pookipoiga focusing on gifting is about to close its doors. Our online store will keep its virtual doors open! ( One can request the world's first Inhouse Happy birthday singing and corn starch pellet throwing instead of confetti. We can even play the recipient's favourite songs - even footy anthems ) My community here is invited for our grand farewell (think Mulled wine, savoury treats, homemade brownies, door prizes etc.) We are officially finishing up on July 15th. Our big farewell bash on July 11th from 5-8 pm. We have already had 100 people RSVP already and are thinking of restricting the admission to 150 people, so make sure you RSVP quickly! We will also be Auctioning off our World famous and world first Bike chain shelving, our Toorak mansion door turned into table etc. You can RSVP on our Facebook events page here : https://shorturl.at/pJPjK or via our website https://shorturl.at/iUHlx to join the celebration. You will also receive a special code for lifetime discounts on all future online purchases! You can use pick up options for Richmond and surrounding suburbs, including the CBD, as we have made arrangements with local traders to hold your pick ups. From trades to engineering, then wholesale to retail to ecommerce, it feels like a full circle. If there is one thing that I have learned along the way over the last 12 years serving the community, it is that, now, more than ever, any business needs a considerable amount of time and energy input ( even if you use the bloody AI). If it is a socially and environmentally conscious business, add triple the energy and time. So the time has come for me to reassess and figure out the next impactful adventure but this time something very scalable. I am in no rush but I will grab any great opportunity with both hands when I see it fits with my purpose of being creative, joyful and environmentally sustainable. Hit me up, if I can be of service! Have a great weekend! Sree 🙏 #startup #circulareconomy #artsandculture #sustainability #bringingjoy

What a lovely bunch of Kind humans 🎉🎉🎉 . You're all inspirational explorers, especially when most of Melbourne are yet to find out about us after these incredible 9 years! We are passionately exploring, finding such exceptional products with high functionality, sustainability, creativity, giving back, as well as giving and bringing joy through gifts and giving experiences! Thank you for visiting us Celeste Wells and students of Boston College. Thank you for not only finding our impactful gift store from the other side of the world but for also sharing your immense appreciation for our hard work. You made our day with these kind and thoughtfully handwritten messages. We know the power of it as we do the same for our gift delivery service. It is so nice to be at the receiving end this time and even nicer to see so many messages all in one 😊😃 We are hoping to be doing more story telling and reach more of you once we go fully online!!! #Inspirational #gratitude #kindness #giving #gifting #sustainable #studies #circulareconomy #corporategifting

💌 Heartfelt Announcement regarding our one and only Richmond store 💌 9 years ago, we embarked on the Pookipoiga ( Little washer boy!) journey, craving to create the most quirky, sustainable and impactful community (pretty much an ideal shop in an ideal world!). It has been an incredible journey - Pookipoiga has become the iconic embodiment of nine years of passion and dedication towards education, upcycling, circular economic principles as well as supporting local and social businesses. It is now time for us to move on to our next adventure. Being part of Pookipoiga has not only connected us with our local Richmond and Inner East Melbourne community but also with the broader Global community ( half of our online customers are overseas for example!). As a small business, Pookipoiga has been profoundly rewarding, symbolising the transformation of vision especially on how many angles of thought go through each individual product, all the while curating thousands of SKUs with a very nimble team (Not more than 2 at any given time)! Every aspect of this store reflects the hard work, tough decisions, victories, and challenges that come with being a creative and socially orientated enterprise. However, the time has come for us to further explore and learn. Let's celebrate our 9th birthday and farewell closing this remarkable chapter in Richmond's iconic Bridge Road with gratitude and fond memories. A heartfelt THANK YOU to the Richmond community, our store neighbors, fellow bridge road traders, our artist friends, our brand friends, and our dedicated staff, past, and present, for their unwavering support and commitment. And to you, our beloved community, who have embraced and loved Pookipoiga since its inception in 2015, thank you for the countless conversations, joy, and tears shared over the years. Your connection with this space and thoughtfulness means a lot - to be able to keep faith in humanity and share the kindness, gratitude and empathy. Without doubt and more than ever those are the qualities which will help us thrive as humans. Special mention to our friends and family and our closest Richmond locals and community whose support and belief in us kept us alive and poured in the creative spirit making Pookipoiga one of the best stores in Australia (focusing not only on form and function but also leading the way in sustainablity, impact and community!) Gratitude fills our heart as we bid farewell to Pookipoiga store in Richmond. We hope you can make it to our last two events happening - one this month on 28th May (think mulled wine and non alcoholic punch!) and one on 11th July (final auctioning off of our notoriously famous Bike chain shelving, Upcycled Toorak Mansion door table and other useful furniture and more)! So save the dates (5-8pm) and watch out for our newsletter. More than ever follow us here if you love what we do as there might be pop ups and other exciting news too. continued in comments....
