Great robust discussion at Power + Utilities Australia today. I took quite a few things away from our panel discussion, in particular the importance of national coordination - we have all the resources and capabilities we need to support the #energytransition, but we need to better distribute and coordinate them across states and regions as mentioned by Heidi Lee and Ian Brooksbank. We also need to ensure we look at local and regional solutions and stay agile to adapt to a changing context as per Bruce Mountain’s comments. I highlighted the importance of giving the same or higher priority to distributed #DER and demand-side solutions as we do to large scale supply solutions, and to not use the challenges currently faced to question the transition underway. As per Gates’ law, “most people overestimate what they can achieve in a year and underestimate what they can achieve in ten years”. IEEFA Asia Pacific #energy #electricity #energyefficiency

Yesterday I was involved in my first conference panel (hopefully many more to come!) representing The Australian Power Institute on 'Building a Skilled, Inclusive Workforce for the Transition and Beyond' at Day 1 of the Power + Utilities Australia Conference. I must admit I was a little panicked and the ol’ pesky imposter syndrome was lingering around. But I was reminded that I have been working and breathing engineering workforce development for the last ten years (thanks David Pointing) and am passionate about encouraging young women in joining the power sector because it’s incredibly dynamic. The panel of impressive women I joined on stage were so kind (I don’t think I have met more supportive women in any industry like I have in power/energy) and our discussion was fueled with passion and thought inducing comments. Thanks so much to Anthea Middleton from Powering Skills Organisation, Ruth Groom from Hydro Tasmania, Dr Genevieve Simpson from RACE for 2030 CRC, and moderator Bronwyn See for bringing us all together Obviously we all know there's a lot to be done in building our workforce – especially one that welcomes diversity, but as someone passionate about the power industry, about encouraging the younger generation to choose a career in engineering and about life-long learning, I think we've got this!

Listening to the ABC of V2G (Vehicle to Grid) at Power + Utilities Australia. Great insights from Riccardo Pagliarella, PhD, Laura Jones, Oliver Hill and Ross De Rango. We need more discussion and less fear from all stakeholders in the ecosystem, policy makers, energy market, charger OEMs, car manufacturers, EV fleet managers and EV drivers, etc. That's not a small challenge!

Challenging conversations and opportunities to accelerate the transition to a net zero future. Hydro Tasmania is Australia’s largest renewable energy generator and our CEO Ian Brooksbank joined a panel at the Power + Utilities Australia conference on solving for the jigsaw puzzle of policy, coordination, engagement, investment and equity needed to underpin the once in a generation system change. #hydrotasmania #netzero #energy
