Exciting news today that the Australian Building Codes Board (ABCB) has released its Prefabricated, modular and offsite construction Handbook. The Australian Building Codes Board (ABCB) is the standards writing body responsible for the National Construction Code (NCC), WaterMark and CodeMark Certification Schemes. In March 2024, the Building Ministers acknowledged the significant potential of MMC to help address Australia’s housing supply shortfall. The handbook has been developed to increase the understanding and effectiveness of existing building standards and regulations at the direction of Ministers and to respond to government and industry requests for guidance on achieving NCC compliance in buildings that use MMC. It answers questions about determining evidence to support compliance and common NCC compliance risk areas. Congratulations to the ABCB and Building 4.0 CRC for their work on producing the Handbook. An interesting article released yesterday from Sourceable's Andrew Heaton cites Master Builders Australia analysis which reveals that construction timeframes have increased across every dwelling type over the last ten years. Notably the speed of #prefabrication is consistently coming into focus such as in the 7NEWS Australia story (https://lnkd.in/gcMTmB8e) broadcast two weeks ago. prefabAUS Executive Chair Damien Crough contributed to the story and it has led to a flurry of prospective home builders reaching out for further information. Damien heads to Canberra this coming Monday 11 November to take part in the Building Ministers' Industry Dialogue. It was great to come together with the Australian Property Developers Association Inc yesterday Wednesday 30 October 2024 for their Melbourne event focused on property and building technologies, where much of the discussion was on #prefab and #modular building. The panel discussion featured George Abraham, Hickory, Gabrielle McMillan, Equiem and Ryan Brown, SHAPE Australia with Benni Aroni, Pitcher Partners guiding the discussion. Once more it was clear how much interest there is in modern methods of construction #MMC and how it can be utilised to build better, safer and smarter.
