Avid tea drinker, rugby player, and Multiplex Project Engineer, Neori is an expert on the new Sydney Fish Market’s roof ‘pods’, aka cassettes, and we joined him to learn about the method of construction and installation. From concept to execution, the unique installation process is designed to engineer out risk and enhance efficiency, with the pods assembled at Glebe Island to reduce working at heights. The pods are then transported to the site by barge – a process which has reduced over 200 truck deliveries – then craned up and secured onto the glulam roof structure. 407 of the multi-functional pods will be installed over the 230-metre canopy, offering protection from the elements while also integrating photovoltaic cells and helping with water collection for irrigation and amenities. Thanks to our project team and subcontractors for their vital role in delivering this complex aspect of the project. A great day for Fitzpatrick + Partners at World Architecture Festival. We're proud to share that 88 Walker has won the 'Completed Buildings - Mixed Use' Award against a shortlist of incredible projects from across the world. Meadowbank School | Completed 2022 Designed during the initial stages of covid, we were challenged to find an alternative cladding material to extruded terracotta profiles, one that could be sourced locally for the end walls and the projections that frame the glazed curtain wall. A quick rummage through the Prism materials library and the natural choice was to use brick, detailed in a way that could be integrated into unitised curtain wall panels. Brick slips are often selected where a façade needs to be lightweight. The manufacturing method we selected cuts two brick slips from a standard domestic module with the centre section discarded. On reviewing samples Ian Lomas (WB) turned one over so the brick extruded holes and internal face of the cut brick slip was facing out... he asked "can we do that" so a call to the supplier confirmed "can't see why not". A visual mock-up was commissioned and @favettibricklaying tested various mortar colours and joint raking to review the overall impact. By inverting the brick and exposing an internal cut surface, resulting in a rich texture of stack bonded brickwork. The iconic 55-storey commercial tower identifies the Parramatta CBD as the preeminent urban centre within Greater Sydney, establishing new benchmarks in contemporary workplace, sustainability and placemaking for a range of private sector and government institutions, and defining Parramatta Square as a vibrant civic meeting place for the community. Step into the soul of North Sydney through Blue & William, a 10-storey mid-scale boutique workplace crafted by Woods Bagot. Jason Fraser, Principal at Woods Bagot, shares, "the building’s character is a direct response to the neighbourhood, a place of red bricks and terracotta roofs leading down to the Harbour edge, wrapped around a site specific, future-conscious workplace." Quay Quarter Tower | Circular Quay, Sydney _Completed 2022 The façade features large staggered sunshades which deflect the western sun and provide visual distinction for this iconic building in Sydney's Circular Quay. The rotating blocks form a large cantilever at the top of the building, which maximises the views to our harbour and city without compromising on thermal comfort. Prism Facades acted as the certifying engineer for all tower facades, providing façade engineering services through to completion. 3 Parramatta Square | Completed 2020 Prism Facades were engaged by developer Walker Corporation to design, engineer, document and peer review all of the facades for this new commercial tower, from early concept through to completion. While simple at face-value, the projecting curtain wall generates many complex interfaces in the façade that Prism designed and worked to resolve.
