What a pleasure it was to announce the recipient of the Cultural Heritage and Museum Studies Emerging Scholar Prize last week: Jodi C.. Congratulations, Jodi! It was also a pleasure to have Dr Linda Young, supporter of the prize, Course Director of the CHMS program for many years, and a mentor to students coming out of the program (including me!) present Jodi with the award at Deakin University’s School of Humanities and Social Sciences Student Awards ceremony.

Despite the spin, Melbourne’s heritage is still undermined by the planning changes. With a more considered approach, we could do better, for both housing and conservation. See more in The Age:

The Victorian Goldfields is now on Australia’s World Heritage Tentative List. This is an important step forward to obtaining international recognition of how the Goldfields is a well-preserved example of nineteenth century global gold rush landscape, and its rich history from the First peoples living on Country to waves of immigration.
