More housing around stations is a good idea. But unless nearby public transport runs frequently, 7 days a week, it's a recipe for more traffic congestion. Whether you were headed for mass or the marathon this morning, #Melbourne's trains don't make it easy to get there on time. Despite plenty of demand, about half the Metro lines run only every 40 minutes until 10am on Sundays. #MoreServicesPlease

It's not even 9pm, and on one of Melbourne's busiest bus routes, the last service has already departed. And not just this route. For many suburbs across our city, public transport has stopped for the night. To truly be a world city, public transport needs to be better than this.

If the state government is serious about streamlining the Upfield line, they must duplicate the single track section, to allow more frequent, more reliable train services. https://lnkd.in/gAGjVXvf

A good discussion last week on active transport, with Minister for Public and Active Transport Gabrielle Williams, and other advocates, including our friends at Victoria Walks. Better walking and cycling options help get more people to public transport more efficiently, and mean fewer households paying for an extra car to sit in a car park all day.🚉🚶🚴

Here's a quick overview of the 2024 State Budget - some welcome small service upgrades; some infrastructure projects delayed, which is unfortunate but not surprising. For us the big question is whether they'll commit to frequent services all day every day when the Metro tunnel opens?
