The #endingtrachoma team has produced a series of factsheets designed for tenants in remote/regional communities with the aim of reducing transmission of environmental health related diseases within the home environment. The factsheets can be used as part of the environmental health clinical referral response process as they provide simple steps on how the tenant can reduce transmission in the home. The factsheets cover health issues and diseases such as runny tummy, otitis media, breathing issues and lung sickness, scabies, skin sores and trachoma. There is also a factsheet that provides advice for Environmental Health Practitioners and clinicians on what to expect after a clinical referral has been made. About us
The Public Health Advocacy Institute’s mission is to influence, build, promote, and support advocacy for public health priorities. We do this through innovation in education, applied research, engagement, and practice. Established in 2008, under the leadership of Emeritus Professor Mike Daube AO, the Institute is an independent public health voice based within Curtin University, supported by a range of funding partners. We aim to: - Coordinate and offer advocacy training - raise the public profile and understanding of public health - develop local coalitions for public health issues - develop advocacy consensus-based targets - influence public health policy and public health agendas. We do this by providing a diverse range of services including: advice on public health strategies, advocacy-related research and projects, and build the workforce and community capacity for effective advocacy.

Developing a list of mutually agreed environmental health attributable diseases for the environmental health clinical referral process using assigned ICD-10-AM codes would influence the provision of primary care to include recognition of the impact of environmental health conditions and allow environmental health staff to provide a response and education at both community and household levels to break disease cycles. Thanks to CRANAplus for writing this great article about the #endingtrachoma project that is managed by PHAI at Curtin University. Led by Melissa Stoneham & Scott Mackenzie, this projects works alongside remote desert based communities to prevent trachoma by focusing on health hardware & hygiene practices inside homes. We are grateful to all our partners and our funders the WA Dept of Health (EH Directorate) and Rotary International (EndTrachoma) for their ongoing support. https://lnkd.in/gKSWPktz

What a great start to the week! An incredibly valuable interactive workshop in Tom Price, with partners from across the Pilbara discussing how best to provide environmental health clinical referral and responses. It was fantastic to have SafetyCulture attend from Sydney to work through the healthy homes App and demonstrate the data platforms. The Pilbara is leading the way in this process!
