About us
The Push-Up Challenge is Australia’s largest mental health and fitness initiative, proudly run by The Push For Better Foundation, a health promotion charity registered with the ACNC. Each day, participants learn about mental health as they are challenged to complete a different number of push-ups that relates to a mental health statistic in Australia. Participants can aim for half of the push-up target and other exercise alternatives are welcome. The Push-Up Challenge is a unique way to engage your organisation in mental health by: • Learning about mental health: A different mental health statistic is shared each day; • Connection: Encourages team participation using our push-up tracker (phone app); • Promoting fitness: Push-ups can be done anywhere and anytime; • Make a difference: Opportunity to raise funds for mental health The event was founded by Perth engineer Nick Hudson, and in just five years has grown from 4 mates to 215,000 people across Australia, pushing for better mental health. Participants came from across all of Australia, from all walks of life, ranging from school children to a 91-year-old great grandmother. We look forward to having your organisation involved. 🚀 AND WE'RE OFF 🚀 The Push-Up Challenge has officially kicked off our second year in Canada! Our mates on the northern hemisphere (including Push-Up HQ's own Nick Hudson, who's pictured) have braved the freezing temperatures as low as 🥶 -28 degree 🥶 to commit to today's target - 92 push-ups, citing that 92% of the population recognize that spending time outdoors is good for our mental health. But even before kick-offs we had over 63,000 participants registered and raised over $1.6 million for the Canadian Mental Health Association - all before seeing the sun rise on day one. If you're Canadian you still have a chance to join us! Registrations are still live - head to www.thepushupchallenge.ca and sign yourself up!

Get your 2025 calendar ready 📆 From Wednesday 4th - Thursday 26th of June, we will be pushing for better, together. Your goal for the challenge will be 3,214 push-ups, which sadly represents the number of people we lost to suicide last year. Every life lost matters. Many individuals and communities across Australia have felt the profound impact following a life lost to suicide. We deeply respect those people with a lived experience of suicide and value their voices. It’s more important than ever for all of us to prioritise our mental health, and to work together to change this statistic for the better. Let us know in the comments if you'll be joining the push for better in 2025. 3,214 push-ups in 23 days. Let's do this. Lifeline Australia | headspace

Last night, The Push-Up Challenge was recognised at the Telstra Best of Business Awards as the National Building Communities Award Winner. The award is culmination of every participant who has joined the Push for Better since 2017 across Australia. The Push-Up Challenge is a tool that helps communities to come together around a common cause - mental health. We know that social connection is linked to lower rates of anxiety and depression, and conversely, when the need for connection isn't met within our communities, loneliness becomes a real risk factor for depression and suicide. We'll keep pushing and building a community of people actively engaged in mental fitness, so we can live in a world where mental health is just as important as physical health. #Telstrabestofbusinessawards #mentalhealth #communities

Feeling excited about all the features you’re planning for your new app? We get it! Remember though that the design and build of your app is just one ‘part’ of a bigger ‘whole’ that will influence whether your app succeeds in the long term. One great example is The Push-Up Challenge app, which launched 4+ years ago. The app has reached #1 in App Store and #1 in Play Store and in 2024, the tech supported 218K+ users to raise $12.3M for mental health and suicide prevention. The app is just a small ‘part’ of the bigger ‘whole’: an inspirational story of courage and truly awesome fundraising efforts by people around Australia, and now Canada, supported by tremendous campaigning and collaborations. If you want to create an impactful app that endures through the years, be sure to think beyond features, design and build. Really move hearts and minds: make your app part of a bigger story. Check out how The Push-Up Challenge helps participants have mental health conversations. Here's what our 2024 participants had to say about having those important conversations during this year's Challenge 🤝 Unfortunately, stigma around mental ill-health is still present. We're here to change that by raising awareness and starting conversations around the mental health issues affecting everyday Australians 🌟 Empowering staff to have meaningful and important conversations about mental health is so important for people's wellbeing and also team performance. Want your workplace to get involved in 2025? Reach out now!
