Australia’s recent #socialmediaban for kids is a positive step forward in addressing online safety—but it’s not a complete solution. As the school holidays approach in #australia and around the world, we’re encouraging parents to think beyond social media and consider the wider digital spaces where kids spend their time. Recently, our Global Brand Director and Online Safety Expert, Yasmin London, joined Weekend Sunrise on the Seven Network to discuss the ban and its implications. While the law sparks an important conversation, we believe the most effective strategies start at home and, equally, in schools. Here are some of our top tips for keeping kids safe online this holiday season: ✔️ Manage access: Understand the apps and platforms children are using, and stay informed about their online interactions. ✔️ Set healthy boundaries: Balance screen time with offline activities and prioritise moments of connection and fun as a family or group. ✔️ Enhance communication: Create an open environment where kids feel safe discussing their online experiences. Stay curious—ask them what they think about the ban and how their peers are reacting. The social media ban is just one piece of a much larger puzzle. By taking proactive steps at home, you can help ensure your kids are safe and confident navigating the online world. This November, we embraced the spirit of Movember. Throughout the month, we encouraged our team to take part in various initiatives to support men’s health—mental, physical, and socio-emotional. Movember isn’t just about growing moustaches; it’s about raising awareness and taking action. Here’s how we got involved: ✔️ Mo’ Challenge: Some of our colleagues let their moustaches do the talking, sporting bold new looks while sparking conversations about men’s health. ✔️ Move for Health Challenge: Others took on the goal of walking or running 60 km over the month, representing the 60 men we lose to suicide every hour, globally. ✔️ Lunch and Learn Discussions: A powerful session on topics like depression, loneliness, and the stigma around men opening up sparked meaningful conversations. It was a reminder of how important it is to create safe spaces to talk about these issues. ✔️ Giving Back: Many generously donated to support Movember’s vital initiatives. At Qoria, we’re not just growing moustaches; we’re growing a culture of care across our regions and our teams and working together to address critical issues like men’s health and wellbeing. To everyone who participated, supported, or cheered us on this Movember – Thank you. Let’s keep the conversations going and continue to prioritise mental and physical wellbeing. #Movember #MensHealth #MentalHealth #QoriaCulture #TogetherWeThrive

With the #socialmediaban now decided, the real work begins. What does taking ‘reasonable steps’ mean for platforms? Who decides? What about a Digital Duty of Care? Who’s responsible? Which platforms are included? There are plenty of questions, but answers are still to be decided. Our Global Brand Director and Online Safety Expert Yasmin London joined Weekend Sunrise on the Seven Network this morning to share what we do know—why this ban alone isn’t a panacea to online harms for kids—and the steps parents can take now, while we wait, to protect their children. We look forward to contributing our expertise to the important decisions being made over the next 12 months in #australia to ensure young people are both protected and supported when it comes to their online experiences. #qoria #safety #onlinesafety #socialmediaban #advocacy #education #technology #australia Linewize ANZ (part of the Qoria family) ySafe by Qoria Smoothwall (part of the Qoria family) Linewize US (part of the Qoria family) Qustodio (part of the Qoria family)

AI is rapidly evolving, transforming classrooms and how students learn. But this progress comes with challenges: AI tools are being misused to create CSAM and explicit content, leaving schools struggling to respond. To better understand these issues, we surveyed over 600 school communities worldwide, gathering insights from educators and safeguarding leads to bring their important experiences and perspectives to the world's attention. One message was clear—schools need support now to protect their students. Our new Global Insights Report on AI-enabled CSAM and Explicit Content in Education combines the collective insights of school communities with practical strategies to help schools navigate these challenges effectively. Key takeaways from the report: ☑ AI misuse is rising: Find out which tools are being exploited to create harmful content, increasing risks for students. ☑ Teacher training is essential: A lack of preparedness is a significant barrier schools are looking to address. ☑ Developing digital visibility: Learn how schools can use existing technology to detect threats early and respond quickly. Download our report today to learn more and access the tools and knowledge you need to create a safer digital environment for your school community. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/g3_xAbuZ #qoria #schools #education #safety #safeguarding #ai #deepfakes #staff #parents #students #technology Smoothwall (part of the Qoria family) Linewize US (part of the Qoria family) Qustodio (part of the Qoria family)

At Qoria, we have been concerned about the increase of AI's impact on CSAM and explicit material over recent months and are hearing concerns firsthand from the schools and parents we work with. A recent report by our colleagues at the Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) shares the findings of a recent analysis of a single dark web forum which revealed: ➖ 3,512 AI-generated CSAM images were shared. ➖ 90% of the images were realistic enough to be assessed under the same laws as real CSAM. ➖ 32% of images fell under the UK’s most severe Category A (the most extreme form of explicit content). This underscores the urgent need for stronger regulations and tools to combat the misuse of AI for criminal purposes, and we stand united with #IWF in calling for stronger protections for both children and adults from these harms. Key Recommendations to the UK Government on AI Misuse are: ✔ Banning Paedophile Manuals: Legislate to outlaw guides sharing tips on using generative AI to create child sexual abuse material, including pseudo-images. ✔ Protecting Personal Data: Make it illegal to use personal or digital data to create AI-generated child sexual abuse content. ✔ Regulate AI Chatbots: Legislate against generative AI chatbots that simulate sexually inappropriate communication with children. ✔ Restrict Nudifying Technology: Prohibit access to nudifying technology in the UK and advocate for similar global measures. We must work together to create a safer online environment for future generations so that every child has the opportunity to thrive in their digital life. Importantly, the report highlights practical, manageable strategies schools can use to tackle these challenges head-on. We know that equipping school staff, students and parents is a key factor in building safer environments, but schools can’t do it alone. This is why Qoria is committed to standing shoulder-to-shoulder with schools, providing the tools, knowledge, and support they need to thrive in this new and evolving digital world. In case you missed it: The U.S. Department of Education recently released its new AI Toolkit for K-12 leaders. Is it useful? We asked Director of Digital of Wellbeing, Teodora Pavkovic, from our Linewize US (part of the Qoria family) team, to share her insights on how it will help schools and districts. "The newly-released AI Toolkit covers an impressive amount of ground, while also being incredibly practical. With over 60 conversation starters and discussion questions, an appendix of real-world scenarios, and a section dedicated to "Building a Strategy for AI Integration," the 74-page document should alleviate worries for districts who have been understandably hesitant to declare a position on AI as of yet. As we've seen from the recent lawsuit in Massachusetts, ambiguity around AI's acceptable role in schools can be seriously problematic. Districts should trust their instincts in wanting to remain flexible as AI tools develop while recognizing the importance of communicating policies and expectations around how these tools should be used."
