About us

The Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) provides world-class emergency pre-hospital care to the Queensland community. As part of Queensland Health, we are an integral link in the primary health care sector, looking after our fellow Queenslanders in their times of need. Our 15 Local Ambulance Service Networks, comprising 298 response locations and seven Operations Centres across the state, are staffed highly trained and dedicated Paramedics, Emergency Medical Dispatchers and Patient Transport Officers. They are well supported by our volunteer Local Ambulance Committees and First Responders in a number of locations. Our organisational structure can be viewed at https://www.ambulance.qld.gov.au/structure.html. QAS is responsible for the delivery of pre-hospital ambulance response services, emergency and routine pre-hospital patient care and transport services, co-ordination of aero-medical services, inter-facility ambulance transport, planning and coordination for multi-casualty incidents and disasters, and casualty room services. Our commitment to innovation and ongoing advancements in training and clinical practice position us as one of Australia’s leading ambulance services, despite the challenges presented by a geographically diverse state. QAS is also a leader in the provision of quality First Aid training courses, which can be booked online at: https://bookings.qld.gov.au/services/firstaid/. Careers QAS accepts applications from Qualified Paramedics who have previously been employed as a paramedic with a state ambulance service, as well as from university graduates who have completed a degree in paramedic health science from an Australian or New Zealand tertiary institution. We also accept applications for the positions of Emergency Medical Dispatcher and Patient Transport Officer on ‘as-needed’ basis. Updates

  • This afternoon in Brisbane, QAS concluded the final of four Workforce Forums held throughout 2024. This Forum provided an opportunity for all areas of the workforce to engage with the Executive Team, and to facilitate discussions on organisational culture and the strategic priorities going forward. Along the way we were able to recognise some significant QAS milestones for staff in attendance, including Benjamin for 10 years of service, Emily for 10 years, Belle for 15 years, and Ailsa for an impressive 20 years working for her community!

  • Always best to be prepared! Emergency services were keen to test themselves on the recently opened hiking and mountain-biking trails at Wangetti, north of Cairns – but not for the same reason as everyone else. QAS joined SES and Queensland Police to practice scenarios in locating, treating and extricating potential ‘patients’ from the trail, to ensure they are ready in case someone finds themselves in trouble through injury or illness. It was a great opportunity to address the complex access and egress challenges on what will eventually be a 96km trail network from Palm Cove to Port Douglas.

  • Did you know in the Brisbane region over the last year we’ve been partnering a paramedic with either a physio or occupational therapist to create Falls Co-Response teams. These teams respond to older people who’ve fallen but seem ok, have minor injuries, or can’t get back on their feet. And so far, the results have been fabulous… The program was awarded this year’s Council of Ambulance Authorities (CAA) Excellence in Patient Care and also took out the overall Star Award. We went out on the road for a while with one of the teams to check out how this new type of response works for our patients…meet "The Nats"! Follow the full story here: https://lnkd.in/gYSnmTyS

  • The graduates of Group 35 & 36 of the Critical Care Paramedic (CCP) Program proudly received their new gold epaulettes and Certificates of Achievement at a ceremony this morning in Brisbane. Following additional study and training, these paramedics now have an expanded scope of practice and will be on scene at the most critical incidents, from the Gold Coast border all the way to the Far North. The CCP qualification is a significant achievement and a testament towards their passion for healthcare – well done to all those being celebrated today!

  • Last week we celebrated a number of staff from around the state who have worked hard to complete their graduate program through unique pathways. Sunshine Coast officers Shelby and Larnie both worked through the Emergency Call Handler pathway before going on-road and are now receiving their new paramedic epaulettes together. Meanwhile over in Longreach, Caitlyn is the first officer to complete a graduate program in the district! Caitlyn moved from Brisbane out to the central west to pursue her career goals and will be a great asset in her new country community.
