About us
The Queensland Animal Science Precinct (QASP) is a unique world-class research facility that accommodates training, teaching, validation and commercialisation of animal research focusing on the research and development requirements of state, national and international animal industries. QASP has the ability to undertake a diverse range of animal research including nutrition, health and disease management, vaccine development, behavioural and welfare studies, biosecurity investigational work, reproduction and food safety. QASP is an integral part of the University of Queensland’s Gatton Campus and complements the existing animal teaching and research infrastructure which includes a modern dairy, piggery, poultry unit, equine and native wildlife units. The proximity of the QASP site to allied Brisbane research facilities and the international airport, together with the availability of Queensland's most respected animal scientists ensures the facilitation of collaboration by leading animal researchers worldwide. There is no comparable facility elsewhere in Australia. Mission Statement Our mission is to be an innovative and committed leader in agriculture research. Through the utilisation of biosecure solutions and new technologies, we strive to achieve measurable improvements in production outcomes to drive leading research advancements.

We are thrilled to announce that our 10 SmartFeed Pro units from C-lock are installed and up and running! This technology has the capability to control individual daily feed intake and allocate a different diet in each feeder to specific animals by the exclusion gate system. It is exciting to see the precise capture of data such as individual Net Feed Intake (NFI) while eliminating the stress of individual housing. These cutting-edge devices are designed to revolutionize the way we think about individual animal data in a group housed environment. Stay tuned as we explore the endless possibilities these smart feeders will bring to our projects. We can't wait to share our journey and the impact it will have on our community and beyond! #UQ #SmartFeederPro #CLock #Technology #Innovation #FutureReady #Teamwork #SmartSolutions

🐐Goat research check in! 🐐 It's weighing and deworming day for our little herd of female Boer goats who are part of a large-scale project to quantify the greenhouse gas emissions of goats and improve sustainable management practices for the industry. The Goat Sustainability Project is a joint initiative of MLA & UQ researchers. Sarah J. Meale, Anne Beasley, Louwrens Hoffman and PhD student Morteza Moradi are part of the team who will investigate a range of environmental and physiological factors relating to goat greenhouse gas production over three years. QASP staff are managing the day-to-day operations of both on-site and remote property portions of the research, including the set up and maintenance of specialised research equipment and the care and welfare of the animals involved. #UQ #sustainableagriculture #goatresearch #greenhousegasemissions Pictured below: QASP research assistant Molly with a few research goats.
