Engage, Inspire & Educate, Students, Teacher & Industry about the value of Life Long STEM learning

About us

REA has operated as a not-for-profit social enterprise since 1998. We started outside the traditional education system, facilitating career intervention activities that link schools, Industry, TAFE, universities, and parents in a collaborative and entrepreneurial environment. Our goal, increase the attractiveness of STEM career pathways and thus the talent pool from which the Industry can draw. We introduced the term STEM to the Australian vernacular, but we are much more than just STEM. We operate across Australia, and our activities provide a Metamorphic Learning experience that significantly changes student (and teacher) capabilities, so profoundly that they don't just change their knowledge base; it changes them fundamentally. Critical in this transformation of the education process is the involvement of Industry and the provision of role models and mentors to engage directly with students. Our programs, including F1 in Schools, SUBS in Schools and SPACE in Schools, prepare students to transition to work by building employability skills. Students learn to adapt to the rapidly evolving and complex world they are about to enter and learn skills that help them operate at the boundary layer between people and problems. Just as Industry measures itself against its competitiveness on the world stage, the indicator we use to measure our achievements is the success of our students at international STEM competitions. Since 2004 we have had twenty (20) student teams (6 students per team) make it onto the podium at international STEM competitions. Eight (8) becoming World Champions, 2nd Place 6 times, 3rd Place 5 times, 4th Place 3 times, 5th Place 6 times.

REA Update Thank you to the tens of thousands who have responded to our recent announcement. We are genuinely overwhelmed by the outpouring of support, and I will do my best to address each response as soon as possible. While many people offered assistance, I want to emphasise that our board—a group of respected businesspeople and friends—made this decision. They have witnessed Toni and me working tirelessly, seven days a week, for the past 26 years without a break. Their decision is rooted in their desire to bring peace and harmony to our lives, having seen the personal toll battling bureaucratic inertia has taken, particularly over the past two years. They have indicated that moving forward, every step we take will require their approval, which they have stated will be guided by the impact on us and our team. I kindly ask for your understanding, patience, and space as we manage our current workload, which has quadrupled since the announcement—something we did not anticipate or believe humanly possible. The board has given us the go-ahead to work with the SA industry to explore the viability of running the SA State final for F1 & SUBS at the Royal Adelaide Show, a project we've been developing for 12 months. With a small amount of industry support, we can make this happen. We will also continue to support the four teams we are sending to the F1 in Schools World Final in November. These teams are generally self-sufficient but may require additional industry sponsors and mentors. Beyond these, we will consider all activities on a case-by-case basis. Thank you again for your kind words and support. Please direct your energies toward the students and, where possible, help guide their potential and career futures, "No one said YOU couldn't."

Dear Friends of REA, With a heavy heart, I write to inform you of our board's decision to suspend and hibernate operations due to a lack of funding. Despite our many achievements and international recognition, the absence of clear government funding and insufficient industry support have forced us to make this difficult decision. Over the past year, we have tirelessly pursued ongoing funding but have had little success in the current economic climate. Despite substantial funding from the DOD for the past 16 years, our appeals to the Ministers of Defence, Defence Industry, Education, Science, Industry and Resources, Communications, Skills, and Training were unsuccessful. Disappointingly, the industry has also not provided adequate support, leaving us in a precarious position that we, as a charity and public company, cannot sustain. The immediate victims are the 15,000+ students in our programs and the 8,000+ students preparing for competitions nationwide, which can no longer proceed due to the lack of funding. Looking back 26 years to when the Re-Engineering Australia Foundation began, it was born from a desire to pass on experience and wisdom to guide the next generation's career journeys. Inspired by my grandfather's belief that "No one said you couldn't," my wife Toni and I embarked on this journey in 1998 to inspire and mentor those interested in following in my Engineering and STEM footsteps. Our goal was to equip our children with the skills to contribute to Australia's success. Today, Australia faces a growing deficit of 200,000 engineers and is unprepared for projects like the $368 billion AUKUS program. Unfortunately, governments focused more on ideology than outcomes, have failed to build the long-term STEM pathways needed to support such significant projects. To be a leader, our nation must cultivate innovation. The students we have interacted with continually demonstrate their vision and capability to excel globally. We sincerely regret this decision. We are proud to have engaged and inspired over 1.5 million students across Australia and many more worldwide, creating numerous world champions. Our small team of dedicated staff, supported by thousands of volunteers, industry mentors, educators, and, most importantly, the teachers and students, drove this success. To all our friends, I extend my deepest thanks. Your contributions have transformed lives and shaped our nation. The spirit of REA will live on in the many students who have gone through our programs, achieved remarkable careers, and made significant impacts globally. To those students, I pass the baton: "No one said you couldn't," along with the responsibility to inspire the next generation. Our priority is to seek industry support for the young Australians representing Australia at the upcoming F1 in Schools World Final in November. We still hope to celebrate our eighth F1 in Schools World Championship. https://lnkd.in/gHPEScSG
