Making better health a reality.

About us

Tools that assist clinicians in changing the way patients think about chronic pain. Modern pain scientists now have a much better understanding of what causes pain and how to treat it... it’s effective, but very different from the old approaches. We have been so inspired by their work, that we have partnered with world leading neuroscientists in the quest for more effective tools that clinicians can use to treat chronic pain. The fight is far from over, but we now believe that the first big leap forward is at hand.

What happens if you scan the backs of people who have no back pain, looking for the things we often blame when someone does have pain? That’s precisely what several researchers did, and here’s what they found: many of those without back pain still had the same findings often linked to low back pain. For instance, by the age of 30, it’s more likely than not that you’ll have findings of ‘disc degeneration’ – yet most people experience no pain from it. Interesting, right? Now, this doesn’t mean those findings can’t play a role in someone’s pain, but it does show that many factors beyond the structure of our back influence how we feel. Isn’t that exciting? It’s a nice thought experiment to consider what other factors might influence the severity of someone’s pain that could be modifiable and potentially help recovery. What are your thoughts? When we experience back pain, it's still common to be told we have a 'slipped disc.' However, we’re very confident that discs cannot actually ‘slip’. The structure of our spine is really quite marvellous. Understanding the true nature of our spine may positively influence how we feel and what we do. Here’s a snippet from our upcoming publication, "The Resolve Back Handbook", where David Butler explores some of the more accurate messages around the structure of our back. You can pre-order your copy now on our website. #backpain #paintreatment #physiotherapy #chronicpain #exercise

“Chronic pain is the world’s most disabling health condition...” @thetimes recently spoke with IASP member Lorimer Moseley about UK broadcaster and DesertIs land Discs host Kirsty Young’s experience with fibromyalgia and chronic pain. Her lived experience with pain is precisely why IASP members dedicate themselves entirely to our mission and why 5,000 pain professionals from around the world met at the 2024 World Congress on Pain in Amsterdam. To not only discuss what has been dubbed a global epidemic of pain but also create solutions and work together for pain relief throughout the world so people like Kirsty Young do not have to suffer. We're in the news, and for all the right reasons! Under the guidance of Dr Daniel Harvie, the Gold Coast Persistent Pain Centre has been conducting a research study for patients on the waitlist for their interdisciplinary pain service that uses the Reality Health VR Pain Education platform as a core part of the treatment approach. The study is showing  promising early results, with very high levels of engagement from participants. At the recent Gold Coast Health Research and Transformation Showcase, Hannah Kennedy and Darren Doherty had the opportunity to showcase the VR Reality Health platform to attendees, and were invited to share what they have been up to with Channel 9 news. #VRforpain #Painscienceducation #painmanagement #recovery #evidencebasedpractice #research #Virtualreality #workerscompensation #chronicpain #science #neuroplasticity #bioplasticity #unisa

5 Queensland Persistent Pain Clinics, 40 clinicians trained, over 3000km travelled and one big pineapple visited. Huge week with Hannah Kennedy delivering training for the Queensland Health rollout of the VR enhanced Pain Education program project. Amazing to visit such an engaged and excited group of people and I'm super confident that this project is going to be successful, impactful and fun! A huge thank you to Hannah, the Queensland Technology Future Fund, as well as the wonderful teams that welcomed us into their spaces for a great week.
