We want to share this Opinion piece written by Professor Helen Milroy AM, which was featured in The West Australian Newspaper today. Professor Helen Milroy AM is a Palyku woman and co-director of The Kids Research Institute Australia Embrace team. 🌟 Reflecting, Healing, and Moving Forward 🌟 In the words of Professor Helen Milroy AM, “Healing journeys are never straightforward. It requires nuances and different paths throughout life.” "We can all think about the ways we can make next year better for ourselves and those around us. Collectively and individually, we can all make a difference and make Boorloo, Perth, and the rest of WA, the best place to raise our children." On December 5, the Kids Research Institute Australia Embrace team is hosting a free event at Kings Park, celebrating culture, compassion, and connection. Let’s come together to share stories, rebuild trust, and nurture hope for a shared future. 🎉 Celebrating the Launch of Our Reflect RAP 🎉 This week marks an incredible milestone for Fleetcare as we officially launch our Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP). This plan represents our commitment to building respectful relationships, deepening our understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, and taking meaningful steps toward reconciliation. We were honoured to have Mr. Nick Abraham perform a powerful Welcome to Country, Vanessa Stasiw from Reconciliation WA share inspiring insights, and Iesha Wyatt unveil a breathtaking artwork that symbolizes our journey. A special thank you to Kuditj Kitchen for the delicious food and Yilay for the beautifully designed shirts worn by our Reconciliation Working Group. This is just the beginning. Some of our team had the privilege of attending the Reconciliation Australia National RAP Conference in Meanjin (Brisbane), where over 800 reconciliation leaders and supporters came together for an impactful gathering. The message from powerful Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leaders was clear: reconciliation must now be intentional in practice, with a call to reframe, redefine, and reimagine our relationships as Australians. First Nations leaders are urging equal partnerships in the shared journey of reconciliation, reminding us all of our collective responsibility to do the work together. A huge congratulations to all the finalists in the Indigenous Governance Awards! We were thrilled to see three outstanding nominees from Western Australia. A special shoutout to Djarindjin Aboriginal Corporation from Bardi Jawi Country in the Kimberley, winners of the Indigenous-led large incorporated organisations Governance Award. We couldn’t be prouder! It was also inspiring to see such a strong Western Australian presence at the event. Together, we can achieve powerful change. #Reconciliation #IndigenousLeadership #Partnerships #CommunityEmpowerment #SocialJustice #CulturalAwareness #AboriginalVoices #TorresStraitIslanderPride #UnityInDiversity

Kaya to all teachers, parents and schools 👋 With the end of term 4 quickly approaching and planning for term 1 next year on the horizon - places are still available for our Year 4 Reconciliation in Education Program. The program offers schools a fully facilitated, authentic and HASS curriculum-aligned incursion or excursion, which helps you address the cross-curriculum priority of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Histories and Cultures. The lesson compares the Westminster law system in Australia with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Lore systems. In the spirit of reconciliation, the program is co-facilitated by an Aboriginal person with cultural knowledge and a non-Aboriginal Ally. Enquire here: https://lnkd.in/dU-QhDPn We also will be piloting the new Year 5 and Year 6 Reconciliation in Education programs in 2025! More information is coming soon. This program is proudly supported by BHP.

Advocating for Truth and Justice This week, our CEO, Jody Nunn, presented evidence at the Perth public hearing for the National Truth and Justice Bill. This significant initiative aims to establish a commission to address historic and ongoing injustices against First Peoples and their lasting impacts. Drawing on Robyn Smith-Walley OAM and Jody's research into truth commissions worldwide, Jody emphasised the importance of cultural leadership in achieving meaningful outcomes: "It's a component of doing it well and doing it effectively." Jody reflected on the recent referendum, highlighting the gaps in Australians' understanding of our shared history: "I think what the referendum showed us is that Australians are not aware of our history in its full form. I wonder if Australians had that perspective going into the referendum if we would have had a very different outcome." We’re committed to supporting processes that bring truth to light and pave the way for a just and reconciled future. Congratulations, Emma and the entire team at Jackson McDonald, on the launch of your RAP!
Jackson McDonald has launched the firm's third Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan for 2024-2026, marking a significant step forward in our commitment to meaningful reconciliation. This event provided staff and special guests with the opportunity to learn about the goals, initiatives and actions we will be focusing on over the next two years to support reconciliation. A heartfelt thank you to James T Webb and the Wadumbah Aboriginal Dance Group for their powerful Welcome to Country and vibrant dance celebration, and to Francine Bayet from Reconciliation WA for her moving words on the importance of truth-telling and striving for a better future for all. We were also honoured to hear from Kevin Wilson, the Wongutha artist behind the bold design elements in our RAP, who spoke about the design symbolising the ongoing journey of reconciliation and the coming together of First Nations peoples within our modern communities. Staff and guests enjoyed a delicious afternoon tea provided by All Good Grub Bushtukka Catering, as they engaged in meaningful conversations sparked by Yarning Cards developed by our Reconciliation Working Group. 🎥 by Terrace Loft
